Yay, USM can host CUSACG's again...Mississippi is changing the State flag
Quote:The Mississippi flag and its Confederate battle emblem is expected to come down in the coming days as lawmakers voted overwhelmingly Sunday to choose a new state banner.
House Bill 1796 removes the current flag and begins the process of picking another design. The bill now goes to Gov. Tate Reeves, who has pledged he will sign it.
The House voted 91-23 and the Senate 37-14 to approve the flag-change legislation. The historic vote followed days of heated debate and pressure from business and religious leaders, government officials, colleges and athletes to remove it. The NCAA and SEC said championship events would not be held in the state until the flag changed. Mississippi's is the only flag to include the Confederate battle emblem in its design.

What did the flag look like before the battle flag was added?

All of their flags were associated with secession or the confederacy. Prior to 1861 they did not have a flag.

Having the confederate battle flag emblem embedded in your State Flag was always a Bad Idea. Amazing what a little economic motivation can do for you. Hope Southern Miss gets to host the CUSA Championship games in several sports in the future.

A big ole Magnolia Tree with some stars around it will be just fine. South Carolina has a tree...who doesn't love trees.

Oh good. I’m sure that was a great decision to keep the tournament in whatever that town was in Mississippi. I’m sure the tens of fans that attend are thrilled.

A quick internet search shows Southern Miss averages between 3-4k per regular season baseball game (3,786). Another search shows a few less per game for Charlotte Basketball (3,696). The last time we hosted the conference tournament (2016). I can't find anything showing the attendance for that Tournament, but I did find this article about the estimate $2.7M spent in H'burg during the 2015 C-USA Baseball Tournament by visitors. In short, thousands will be there every game and we're glad to host :)

The CUSA baseball championship in 2016 hosted by USM had 3,593 for the championship game on Sunday. The championship the following year (2017) in Biloxi, MS (about 75 minutes south of USM) saw a CUSA baseball record crowd of 5,216. Last year's championship game in Biloxi, MS had an attendance of 3,476. Troll harder there next time.
