Then the Sunbelt it is for USM. How would you prefer to pay your exit fee? Good luck to you.

Yep Good Luck to you. You won’t be playing Florida State or Washington in bowl games.

Have fun on those Tuesday night and ESPN+ games

RE: La Tech AD on realignment with SBC
The Sun Belt and C-USA should have a two year scheduling agreement in most sports. Why? In order to save MONEY! It will also make for stronger schedules. It beats playing the MEAC, OVC, SWAC, etc.. Coaches have drug their feet on this because it might mean a few more losses and put their jobs in danger. I see no downside in trying this for two years. Why do this at the conference level? Because individual schools/coaches are "reluctant".

Another note-- some posters act like football is the only sport the athletic department has to budget for-- do not forget there are FIFTEEN other teams that have travel costs and they add up to big money.

We've been training our whole lives for this.

People don't realize we were the UTEP of the WAC after the exodus. We feel like we are sitting pretty now right in the middle of lots of nearby schools.

Now UTEP, ODU, Marshall, even Charlotte it kind of makes sense for those guys because they are more on the outskirts. UTEP has nowhere to go besides the MWC and a merger with the Sun Belt doesn't really move the needle for them too much. App State is the big get for the Sun Belt and plenty of CUSA teams would be happy to swap out their least favorite team for App. Troy, Ark State, ULL, and GS would all strengthen CUSA if they replaced the weakest teams in the conference. I don't think most would want to trade for anything but the very weakest teams though. You could say the same thing about the Sun Belt I realize. There is not much separation there between the two conferences. We will see what the future holds. CUSA needs a few of the lower performing teams to step up though.

That statement could be absolute gold in another 2-3 years. Keep that one on the shelf somewhere.

I have always wanted to ask a Tech fan this, but have always felt like they take it the wrong way, but since you brought it up: How do y'all function on a budget that small? Where does the money come from? do you notice it as a fan?

Its hard not to notice when its pressed up against your face. We have always been lucky and prudent with our funds. We are very conservative and do not often take risks. This has hurt us some but for the most part kept us in good shape. The fan base is small but rabid. When something is needed, the funds are found. We also recruit a certain type of coach and administrator. And again...We have been lucky.

Will see. I like that our AD actually has swagger, like you username. It's nice he finally put this Sunbelt nonsense to rest.

No doubt about it we have one of the lowest budgets in FBS. It's a sad truth. I feel like we used to notice it a ton. Particularly when we joined the WAC. Since then i feel like we have made tremendous progress.

Some of it is probably not as bad as it looks because of our low cost of tuition and low cost of living in the Ruston area, but no sugarcoating our budget is too small and needs to keep improving.

We should be double what we are given our success, but it just doesn't work that way. Low cost of living, cheap tuition and a very fertile recruiting ground have propped us up for years.

Yep, we honestly have no business doing as well as we have just looking at budget numbers. Thank God that is not the only determining factor of success.

Well La Tech guys, from the outside looking in, it is incredibly impressive. You should take that as the highest compliment.

We appreciate the compliment. Just wish it didn't have to be said. It sucks being broke all the time, but its a Louisiana tradition.

The LA Tech AD's statement.

Very highly unlikely (95%) unless all G5 conferences get disbanded and several Sunbelt schools drop down to FCS. If ESPN renegotiates the AAC contract much lower it could happen. That’s the key

Go watch the NO Bowl a couple years ago. ULL was playing Nevada I think and Mack Brown kept on calling them Monroe (completely unintentional) The other commentator stop Mack Brown and said You mean Lafayette?
