RE: Bad news for G5 schools seeking relaxed rules for minimum D1 sports
FBS requires sponsoring 16 total sports, but some similar sports use the same athletes, such as volleyball and beach volleyball. I'm pretty sure T&F can count for two with indoor and outdoor as well.
FCS requires 14.

Where did you find that. DI is DI, doesn’t matter if you play FCS or FBS, which is only about football. And all that does is change scholarships for football, from 85 to 63. I have not found nothing about an FBS school game needing to sponsor more sports.

I believe 16 for FBS was the rule when we moved up, but we were already well above that mark, so I didn’t pay it much attention. Georgia Southern may have had to add sports, though, but it’s an easier fix if you already have outdoor track and no indoor track teams.

It's been 16 and 14 for a number of years. Here's one of several places you can find it.

Welp, there you go. Thanks, all I had been able to find was the 14.
So I guess FCS is an option for those schools that are right on the edge if they have to drop a couple sports.
