UAB seems like the right answer.

Not the largest market/state and things got so bad at UAB that they dropped their football program.

Very aware about Ray Watts & the UA Board of Trustees. However that seems very much in the past. They’re building a FB stadium to replace Lesion Field. Paying top dollar for their MBB coach.

I would be surprised if the final decision wasn't between ODU and UAB. Buffalo would be a finalist if not for geography.

The AAC will remain at 11, but if we had to pick one of those schools, i would vote for Appalachian State.

I do not want another west/Texas type school, to me the conference has begun to list too heavily in that direction. So a school on the eastern seaboard. Georgia Southern (why are they not listed?) or Georgia State would work as next choices.

GSU doesn’t have a great budget. G-State has no fan support.

I too feel it will come down to UAB and ODU, but that UAB ultimately will be the choice. Birmingham is arguably the college football capital and the Alabama legislature and city of Birmingham will lobby hard for UAB's inclusion in the AAC. This, coupled with UAB's history with some of the current AAC members, geographic location and new football stadium, make UAB the favorite, IMHO.

ODU has a strong resume too, including location, athletic budget and strong hoops programs, but not enough to overtake UAB, IMHO. I do foresee ODU and Marshall joining the MAC in the near future.

How is ODU’s budget currently a positive? We talking just total dollars? Theres a multitude of articles out recently with hard data citing their struggle to remain financially solvent. Their big fundraising push was to build that football stadium. Don’t think ODAF will see similar contribution levels in future years.

Until someone East of the Rockies really distinguishes themselves as being a cut above the rest and capable of adding value to the AAC they will resist growth.

With that said, the Boise, BYU, AFA trio would be a home run if they could convince them to come on board.

If they can’t get someone like Army, AFA, BYU, or Boise St and they are forced to return to 12 to keep the CCG then I think Buffalo, UAB, and ODU will be the pool to choose from.

It's amazing how little you know about your "own" program and the other schools in Texas.

The AAC is moving their headquarters to Irving Texas. Conferences follow money. But, the opening is in the eastern division, and I doubt the eastern members would want a team west of the Mississippi, unless it was a MWC football only invite.

Navy can always move to the East, isn't that where they belong? Maybe the new team even if it is an Eastern team has to go to the West has so Navy can go back East. Why should Navy be punished? If someone's getting in, let them deal with the West, they should be happy they're getting in. Assuming it's UAB, they'd be with Memphis and Tulane so it wouldn't be so bad.

Navy *wants* to be in the West. Puts them in with private schools and increases their exposure in Texas, both of which are big deals to them.

And since they are FB only, it really isn't that big of a deal WHAT division they are in.

Temple and ECU are the only drivable Eastern teams, and they would be hosting one yearly, so a flight is a flight. Being in the west adds ONE whole conference flight vs drive

Believe me, I'm well aware of that. That's part of the "listing" i am talking about. Adding Wichita State while losing UConn is more of it. As a fan of an east coast school, I want someone else in the east.

The AAC will keep the twelve spot open until the dust settles on the Big 12 implosion. Then they will rescue a grateful West Virginia.

How in the frack is Marshall, which is one of the largest organic revenue generating programs around the G5 and one of the few programs in the G5 with both an NCAA Basketball Tournament win and a football Top 25 finish in the past 5 seasons, not on this list?
