RE: NC A&T to the Big South, announcement coming Friday.
North Carolina Central and Howard to the Big South. That could give Big South 2 more football members.
Presbyterian is struggling financially which they might be in danger of closing.
Longwood (4470) and UNC-Ashville (3762) are getting smaller for public enrollment.
Texas Southern and Southern U. had articles about them and Southland be compatible. Jackson State might look at ASUN. Alabama A&M and Alabama State are getting smaller just like the rest of SWAC schools are.
Wofford in the SoCon could be in trouble as the smallest.
Two D2 schools do have a sport already in D1. North Georgia and Augusta.
CIAA's largest schools are Winston Salem, Bowie State (larger than Coppin and UMES), Fayetteville State (5000) and Virginia State (4900).

I don't know. So many MEAC schools are struggling that there may not be a MEAC left in 5-10 years. I hope I'm wrong.
They're dead last in Sagarin in basketball with a 61 ratings. SWAC isn't too far above them with 62. Southland is #31 and is well ahead of both at about 65. Above them, everyone is pretty close to the conference ahead of them until you get to the top 7 at 79 and up (P5, AAC, BE).

FAMU to the A-Sun
B-C and SC St to the SIAA

Coppin, Delaware St, UMES are all under 4,000 (as is BCU)
Morgan State and SCSU are under 5K.
They should be in D2.
Howard, NCCU, NCA&T and FAMU are the only ones above 10K.

If indeed the MEAC continues to lose schools, do you all suppose they will try to invite non-HBCU's from D2 or even from within D1 to try to survive?

The MEAC will probably make another run at Alabama State and Alabama A&M again and you'll probably see them test their luck with Tennessee State. If those schools don't jump at the offer then you'll start to see more schools exit the MEAC.

As an A&T fan, what do you think about the move to the Big South?

I'm on the wait and see train. The move hasn't gone over well here on campus at all and most of the alums are pissed about this. The students are actually planning a sit-in protest tomorrow and you have alumni threatening to pull donations. Give it about 36-hours and cooler heads will prevail. At the end of the day I saw this one coming, you can't keep asking about the future of the league and getting no answers. Once leadership ignores you, it's easy for someone else to grab your attention. What happens in the MEAC now is honestly up in the air, but A&T wasn't the only school pissed at leadership. The big thing is our peers understand and we're going about it the right way and not burning bridges like Hampton did.

Really? Since the start of the 2005 season B-C has played 12 games against FBS. In 10 of those games they lost by margins of 21-to-63 points. They did win the other 2 games; FIU (2013), FIU (2014). The 2013 game was the "first victory ever over an FBS opponent". FIU won 1 game in 2013 and 4 games in 2014. You have a really low bar of success if that's what you call being a beast.

RE: NC A&T to the Big South, announcement coming Friday.
Overall:
The Big South may have averted a hostile takeover of their football conference by bringing in a 5th football program.
The MEAC has now lost 2 members to a non-HBCU conference and had a third drop to D2. Things aren’t looking good for the 10 member league that now sports just 8 football programs. I anticipate that more could follow.
This isn’t great news for the A-Sun/UAC. I think they had their sights set on NC A&T and N.C. Central as a pair. Now that one is off the table it doesn’t make a ton of geographic sense to take the other.

I have an old friend from high school who graduated from A&T in 1987. He posted on Facebook saying he'd sent a letter to the school expressing "shock and dismay" at the move and asking them to reconsider. Anecdotal, yes, but ...

Financially it's a no brainer due to the travel savings
However will this move have a negative impact among alumni giving?
I gotta think A&T considered that

Down in the article, says they approached 8 conferences and got 2 invites. The other one was the ASun. Anyone who thinks the ASun/UAC is stealing Big South teams is dead wrong.
Quote:The committee examined eight conferences and got invitations from two: the Big South and the Atlantic Sun, which has no North Carolina members and doesn't play football. King said A&T considered the Southern Conference, whose members include UNCG, but the university did not ask to become a Southern member and was not invited to join.
That's the key right there. If the UAC gets going with football we will see which teams might go from where.

I'm impressed with the amount of coverage the Greensboro papers are giving A&T. At least half a dozen articles in 24 hours.

Why not wait then? Surely the UAC/ASun told them of their plans. It’s not like the MEAC is disappearing soon
