RE: First JMU coach gone in this cycle
I think it's pretty weird Baylor was interested in the first place... VT went 8-5 including two FCS games in an extremely sorry division of a conference with one good team who they didn't play. They won by a touchdown against an FCS team that got blown out in the first round of the playoffs. This is following a 6-7 season. I'm glad Baylor let the Hokies keep him, I hope he's there in 2025.

I think Fuente is there for at least a few more years unless he truly tanks and misses bowl games, or finds a better gig elsewhere. His buyout is $12.5 million right now, decreasing by 2.5m each year. That’s a lot, even for them.

RE: First JMU coach gone in this cycle
I watched a few VT games last year. Despite the loss to UVA and UK, they played a ton better in the 2nd half of the season than the 1st. Very young team that took some time to come together. If they can keep some of that momentum going I think they'll be at 10+ wins next year. How the defense performs under a new coordinator will probably be the wild card.

Having Hooker at QB made a world of difference once he became the starter.

I’m surprised Bud Foster didn’t delay his retirement 1 more season. Thought I saw a graphic from the VT/Miami game where they showed VT was the youngest (or one of the youngest) teams in the nation. Quick skim of their 2019 roster:
5 Sr
27 Jr
23 Soph
60 Fr

Don't think Bud had the option of staying another season. Not sure arranged marriage between Fuente and Bud worked.....

Word is hooker put himself in the transfer portal last off season which angered Fuente. Hooker didn’t get any better offers so he stayed but Fuentes held a grudge and went with Willis. After Fuente was on the hot seat he turned to Hooker who basically saved his job.

Andrew Jackson our DL coach is next to go to ODU
Do we lose any others??
I think Jackson and the ODU coach were grad assistants or young coaches together at PSU. They have a history.

RE: First JMU coach gone in this cycle
Has anybody heard any word on who our next DL coach and S coach will be?
Hope the lack of a DL coach isn't holding up the Chazz Wallace decision. Or the fact that our old DL coach, Jackson, is now the new DL coach at ODU.
Wallace has narrowed his decision to JMU and ODU. He's taking an official to oDU this weekend. With Jackson at ODU, they could have the inside track.

Everything else being equal, would like to see us wrap up this hire asap. We're currently in the running for 2 high quality recruits. If I were a recruit, I would want to know who my position coach was going to be before making a decision. Feb 5, tick tock.

Seems we could be losing our OC to Youngstown State. He's in contention to be their new HC.
Montgomery was OC at Youngstown State from 2010-17. He has spoken to reps from Youngstown State and is believed to be a viable candidate
