RE: Mike Warren to NFL
Best wishes to Michael Warren. Seems like yesterday that he had his break out game against UCLA in Pasadena. In fact it was just September 2018.

I do think we are in good hands with our stable of backs. The one thing that makes me a bit nervous was I am not sure these guys can be as good as getting into the end zone or converting consistently on 3rd and 2. Some guys just have a knack for that and Warren is one of them. We are all lucky to see Mike as Bearcat in our lifetime.

That's my take. If Mike had stayed for his Senior season, and stayed healthy, he likely would've finished at the top of every major rushing/scoring stat category in UC history. These guys just don't grow on trees or can easily be replaced. I think we all got spoiled by how good he was - especially in the second half or during the critical parts of games - that it took the pressure off the entire team. I know we have some capable guys to help fill the void but how quickly or how consistently will be the key. This news still stings me as much today even after sleeping on it from yesterday.

Hate to see him leave but if backs stay healthy UC should be fine

Doaks could be a monster

His game often reminded me of Rudi Johnson, great vision/power/balance, surprising acceleration, not great top end speed. Pretty sure Rudi made it to a big second contract, here's to hoping Mike does as well.

That's actually the comp i see as well, but with better hands perhaps? The thing that concerns me the most is how RBs are devalued by the NFL these days.

The NFL is a copy cat league. If Derrick Henry drags the Titans to a Super Bowl win that could change very quickly. I hope he gets a shot. I would love to see a game where Boone and Warren are both starting against each other. 04-rock

The pendulum constantly swings in the NFL. I think its going back the other way now (toward RBs). They showed during one of the playoff games last week that the 4 highest rushing teams all made the playoffs, and the 4 highest passing teams all didn't make them.

I love Truck, and hate to see him go, but I think we won't see much of drop off (if any) with Doaks. It would be helpful if they had a good speed back to compliment him.

Yeah but typically you are running the ball late in the game with the lead, and you are throwing the ball like crazy when you are behind just to catch up. I think that stat is flawed. Best thing is balance. You have to be able to run when you want to, and pass when you need to.

Has Mike played special teams? Seems since he's either going to be a late pick it or an undrafted FA that he would need to contribute on special teams.

Wish he had stayed so he could have been added to The Ring of Honor..

But you cannot spend that.

The more I think about this the better it is. This is what happens in real programs. This and starting the year ranked. *fingers crossed*

RE: Mike Warren to NFL
I'll be curious to see how this works out roster wise. I don't think we've added any rb's the past couple cycles, and the postseason always adds some surprises in terms of this transfer portal. However, i think Doaks has earned the way fighting thru injuries, and being patient with the Truck's emergence and he deserves the feature spot. As long as Charles is 100% from the get go i like that tandem as long as Doaks can stay healthy. The other wild car in all this(maybe) is Thomas. I don't think he's ever landed anywhere, and i don't know his eligibility situation. Guess is he didn't burn a year of eligibility last year so he still would have 3 if he keeps academics in order. I recall last year Malick Mbodji went into the portal and came back. He ended up being a big contributor this year kind of out of nowhere. I don't see any 2020 big rugged backs left unless they have a hidden gem or someone backs out on a commitment. I'd still put a big play wr as the biggest need, particularly with the ol being in better shape.

Remember we also have Montgomery and Tucker. A stable of Doaks, McClelland and Montgomery with another guy like Tucker who can get carries is still a very good situation to be in. Warren had a great ability to move the chains that I don't think the others have. But I don't have worries about our run game next year, especially with an improved OL.

Ethan Wright is an early enrollee so he will be here for spring practice and maybe in the mix for playing time. Watching Derrick Henry dominate last night I thought it is sad that Tavion Thomas didn't work out. I know he is not quite as big or fast as Henry but he really still could have been a dominate force for us if he had the football heart and drive of Warren.

Los Bearcats tienen muchos corredores realmente buenos. Le deseo lo mejor a Warren, pero no creo que sea un corredor lo suficientemente rápido como para tener mucho éxito en los profesionales.

Wright may be plan 1, and i have to admit i was not certain they were going to play him at rb. I think he played in hs at under 200 lbs, and he's over six feet tall so my guess is he's going to have to add some bulk to play a lot of downs in the backfield in D1. He's clearly a good runner, question is when and how much.

Wright will put on 20 lbs fairly easily in this program— maybe more. It is my understanding his HS does not have much of a S&C program, plus he plays hoops and runs track so he has stayed lean up to this point. I do think he will be a contributor here but we are probably looking at the 2021 or even the 2022 season, not this up coming season.

Thomas would be wise to return if UC would take him. Why sit a year?

He would get lots of use in 2020 and be the feature in 2021.

I agree, they definitely don’t grow on trees. Multiple times post game or coaches show, I have heard the coach talk about how they run things through him. The offense was designed around him.
