ODU isn't very good this year, nor apparently is WKU, so you may win at least one next week. It appears to be a down year for the conference.

Yeah. A lot of mediocre teams this year and pretty much none that really standout. We usually have 2 or 3 "pretty good" teams. Maybe UNT or LT this year, but even then I don't know.

First off there are more than 5 players. Tay should have been happy to NOT get a offensive foul called. He used his off arm to shied the defensive player. OFFENSIVE FOUL. Bad calls are part of the game and they go both ways. Dont know what Rawls said but he clearly should have kept his mouth shut. A players has to see the way its being called. Shut your damn mouth and you dont get teed up.

Refs didnt cost Western the game...Western's lack of effort on defense and piss poor offense. No freaking offensive system other than weave and high pick. After that take a shot from 22+ feet.

UAB is awful, just awful and I bet their fans agree with that comment. This is the worse Western 'basketball team' in close to 25 years. Well Stansbury's first team would be in there also. It wasnt much better with Bassey. Slow, no size, not much defense, lot of players that dont want to bust threir ass on every play

It stood out to me how undersized WKU is this season. UAB was taller at every position when Benjamin wasn't in the game for us at PG.

When a 6’10-11 guy is hurt it sure makes us smaller. It would most teams.

Double bonus at nearly 10 minutes left lol. Games over already, but UAB has played great defense, give them credit. But at least 4 charging calls on us, 3 very questionable, and we breath on defense and its a foul. You can't win a road game in an environment like that.

1st time Marshall on the free throw line, 7 minutes left in 2nd half. Lol that tells the story.

Update
23 Free throws to 3 now for Marshall.

I'd like our chances playing another game against UAB.

Jalen Benjamin rolled his ankle in the final 1:30 of this game. Hope it's not bad

UAB 61 Marshall 50 Final

Jalen Benjamin probably out for a week or two at least. Might kill any chance we had of getting in the top pod.

RE: Week of Jan. 6 Men’s Basketball
Neither team really took care of the ball nor had spectacular shooting. UAB went on a 9-0 run after about 5 minutes somewhat early in the 2nd half that ultimately was the difference the rest of the way. I like the way UAB shows 2-3 zone for the first 5-10 seconds and then blends into a man. Puts an interesting wrinkle into how teams run plays. I think UAB's effort on defense was definitely a difference tonight.

0 starting seniors in tonight's game.

It is a hollow victory to defeat ODU this season. Charlotte wasn't impressive at all and still beat ODU.

Looks like LaTech scored the last 10 points of the game to eke out the 64-61 road win at UTEP.

Nice comeback!

It depends on your opinion of impressive. ODU only scored 47 points with the last 5 points being in garbage time of the last minute. I think that was pretty impressive.

I am not on board with Charlotte being a great team as we still have a long hill to climb, but we are improving at a good pace. The team is getting better as the season goes on which is what we saw last season. The 1st 7 games Charlotte's defense allowed 68.1 ppg while the last 7 games it is 53 ppg. Charlotte is allowing 51 ppg in conference play. That is a big turnaround, but considering we only have one player starting this season that played minutes last season it is clear they had to learn to play defense together.

Our leading scorer was just returning after a two week injury to only play 20 minutes in this game. He looked sloppy with 4 TOs and only 6 points.

Charlotte had the benefit of opening conference play with 3 straight home games so the next 3 road games will be a good indicator of growth. This team has not performed well on the road thus far this season. If they can figure that out they will be in the top half of the conference this season. If not they will be somewhere in the middle.

Charlotte has consistently forced teams to take shots that aren’t good for them. All season they’ve done this.
This defense could be the one standing when this is all over.

If they can get their guys to shoot with confidence early in the shot clock, they become a very dangerous “why not us” CUSA team.

I just saw that Charlotte hasn’t played a road conference game yet. They have to play three straight road conference games now. They’ll be lucky to come out of that with one win. If they can get 2 out 3 then I would consider them to be contenders for the conference championship.

To the Charlotte guys that are looking for some level of confirmation regarding their win tonight at home against ODU ...

Yes, Charlotte "held" ODU to 47 points. Big woooo! ODU is a pathetic offensive team this season. Hate to burst the Charlotte bubble, but their defense wasn't the determining factor for ODU going 1-22 from the 3 point arc. Heck, even when Jeff has had a better team than he currently does his offense has normally struggled as often as not. That's certainly no secret. I have come to the conclusion that he is just a very poor offensive coach and uses his better than average defense to carry his teams.

Currently the team has 3 of the 5 starters (Carver, Wade, and Oliver) that are playing out of their normal position. Carver isn't a center, Wade isn't a power forward, and Oliver's natural position is shooting guard, not small forward. ODU is a small team that doesn't shoot well and runs predictable offensive sets that should be easy to prepare for. That's not a strong combination for offensive success, or for getting wins. There is a reason the team in 6-10. Had they defeated Charlotte on their home floor I would be concerned if I was them. Having said all of that, kudos to Charlotte. They are at least looking better this season than they have recently and appear to be headed in the right direction.

yall were the fifth team in a row we held to under 22 points at half. Our offense isn’t great, but the defense is consistently holding teams to few points. Our offense is going to lose us several conference games but our defense should keep most games within reach.
