RE: Game 9 - ODU
I usually like to come by with a “good game” after a loss but I’ll just say congratulations instead. We’ve got a lot of problems at the moment. We knew this was a young team and expected some growing pains but showed well in the first four games. We’ve seemed to have regressed and I’m not sure we’ll be able to pull out of this tailspin by March even with some more players getting eligible/healthy mid year. This is NOT our year but hopefully it’s yours. With the size and 3 point shooting you guys have you could win a game or two in the NCAAs. I’ll be rooting for ya, good luck.

Game 9 - ODU
I actually like ODU’s non conference schedule.

vs JMU
vs GMU
@ W&M
@ VCU
vs UR

I believe all of these teams are on year after year. Kudos to maintaining traditional rivalries.

ODU hasn't been the same since they left the CAA.

They have 25+ wins in four of the last five seasons and went to the NCAA tournament last year. They’re not good this year, but they’ve been solid since their move.

RE: Game 9 - ODU
A must win last night for our good guys as six of the next seven games are on the road including three opening CAA road games.

ODU may be having its problems but their biggest problem last evening was the Tribe defense. We played
smothering, aggressive defense virtually the entire forty minutes...great communication and spacing on defense all night for W&M.

Hermanovskis got plenty of prime time minutes last night. He was steady...handled the ball well and was rock solid defensively. Ayesa can shoot threes with his eyes closed and also played well defensively. These
two freshmen getting lots of experience on the court.

Luke played a marvelous second half: what a transformation between now and his first two seasons.
And Barnes, after a couple of poor games, bounced back with a very good night.

And our section continues to be amazed when Van Vliet and Knight take over at point guard and bring the ball up court.

I'm not going to try and convince you, just look at their message board. This was a program that was a consistent winner with incredible spirit. It's not there anymore. They lost it when they left the CAA. I don't have to look any further than we have won 7 of the last 9 games with them.

The problem with their 25 wins last year is few around here would even know, not when you are picking them up against the multiple schools in the Tex Mex league.

As most know, they gave up basketball in lieu of football. They have been winning but as stated, they are not even close to the same. Basketball took a major backseat and never recovered from their school's decision

I had forgot to look at the ODU message board. Thanks for the reminder. Their tears, dispair, and faux superiority, are always great entertainment.

St. Joes is having a really tough year. They are trailing Lafayette - at home - by about 20 points tonight.

And their former coach (Phil Martelli) is an assistant at Michigan now.

Cameron had 13 points and 6 boards last night.

I'd be curious to hear what their fans have to say: Would they come back to the CAA if given the opportunity? Personally, I think many of them think they're just in a rut and things will get better. I don't see it happening.

RE: Game 9 - ODU
I think their fans would not want to come back. Since the conference doesnt have teams of real interest, their interest wouldnt be there. On top of that, I think most still want FBS football and not to be FCS which would mean no CAA. If they could somehow be like Villanova they would, where they could be in a different basketball conference than football. If the option of staying CUSA for football and CAA for all other sports were an option, I think they might consider it, but in the end with no Mason or VCU I think they would still say no. My opinion, without any supporting data

I think you are spot on, but this FBS vanity is mind blowing. Going FBS hasn't lead to this marked uptick in recruiting. They aren't stealing recruits away from UVA and Tech, they are going after a lot of the same kids with CAA offers. Aside from being able to lure in some bigger schools because they aid in bowl eligibility, what are the quality matchups local fans care anything about? Where are the rivalries? If you are a ODU fan in Norfolk, none of your neighbors are FIU or WKU alums. More than likely they went to state schools you played regularly in the CAA. I'd have to imagine the amount of money ODU hemorrhages for travel to play all sports in C-USA is ridiculous. Most every away game for most sports is a plane ride.

UofR, JMU, ODU, & W&M are all traditional regional rivals and should play each other yearly in all sports. It's cost effective, it's a time savings to the athletes, and it makes the most sense for fans. Especially in this current uncertain climate for college football, it seems like a no brainer to me.

Having those local schools on their OCC schedule is great. Kudos to them. I’m not particularly an ODU fan but would like for them to be back in the CAA.

It doesn't matter. The CAA isn't inviting them back.

Why wouldn't the CAA want ODU back? Certainly, W&M's fans would love it. In my time, we got more fired up for the two ODU hoops games than any others.

Game 9 - ODU
It was about 7 or 8 years ago, wasn't it, when there was a mass exodus of FCS to FBS? Kinda like so many home buyers who sacrificed their financial future to pay waaaay above a realistic price for a 900 sq ft rambler.

Can schools file bankruptcy and start from scratch with bad credit?

Most schools/fans are too stubborn to drop down. Idaho did, and their fans were pretty annoyed. It would probably make sense form UMass to as well.

That said, I bet ODU's CUSA deal is worth a lot more than our CAA one

I'm sure it is, but is the deal that much more lucrative when all of the higher costs are factored in? Perhaps it still is, but I find it hard to believe that a mid tier FBS conference generates enough to substantially offset cross country expenses for all-sports participation. They certainly aren't getting the extra push through ticket sales at the gate.

We jumped near 25 spots in the Sagarin rankings, now up to #140.

That puts us 4th in the CAA. Delaware is 96, followed by Hofstra 126 and Charleston at 134.
