I thought this deserved a separate thread to show the bias in the CFP.
You didn't get the memo? AAC teams don't go thru the gauntlet like P5 teams. Outside of one or two games. Memphis had a terribly weak schedule whereas Utah was fighting live cougars in their parking lots. The mountain west is loaded with talent that they get to keep all to their own while Memphis has to get sloppy thirds from the SEC and the ACC. Oh, and more media money means stronger football teams, didn't you know that?
“Cougars” is just BYU’s Mascot, they aren’t real Cougars.
At least not like the Houston Cougars that Memphis has to tame!!
Or the cougars in the Country & Western bars.
I remember some magazine advice on how to tell if you're being stalked by a cougar: Hair doesn't move naturally.

The PAC isn't that much of a football conference. Its all about basketball season.
Wait that stinks too...

UPDATE: Playing only the second team that is ranked this year, they are getting beat late in the game 30-15 by Oregon. All other teams they played had 5 losses or more. The 8 wins in a row by big margins notwithstanding, they've been highly over ranked all years long. Memphis, Cincy, Appy, and Boise all have just as good, if not better resumes.

And now they're out of it like they should be. You're not going to convince me that they didn't have an impressive year regardless. Had they won the game against Oregon, I think they'd have at least a compelling argument for #4. But alas, they didn't, and they're out.

Wish UU would have won.
Anything to keep the Big 12 out is fine by me.

There's always a need to pile on Utah.
The Ewetes just beat Colorado 45-15. Well, WSU (6-6) beat the Buffs 41-10; Oregon beat them 45-3. Even UCLA (4-8) beat Colorado 31-14. They also lost to Air Force.
Utah beat Arizona 35-7. Oregon beat them 34-6. USC beat the Wildcats 41-14. Washington beat them 51-27. OSU (5-7) beat Arizona 56-38. They also lost to Hawaii.
The Ewetes did crush 4-8 UCLA 49-3 at home. UCLA also gave up 48 points to Oregon State, 52 points to USC, and 63 points to WSU. UCLA is the one common opponent with Oklahoma, whom Oklahoma beat 48-14 on the road. UCLA also lost to SDSU and Cincinnati.
Now, the *tough* PAC 12 games...
Utah beat Arizona State by 18, 21-3. The following week, UCLA (4-8) beat ASU by 10. ASU's big OOC wins include Michigan State (6-6) by 3, 10-7 (ugly!) and FCS Sacramento State by a score of 19-7.
Utah beat Washington by 5 points, 33-28, in a 4th quarter, come-from-behind win. Washington lost to Oregon by 3, Colorado (5-7) by 6 and Stanford (4-8) by 10.
USC beat Utah. USC lost to Oregon by 32(!), to Washington by 14, and also lost to BYU (7-5).
That was fun.
Memphis lost to Temple.
Cincinnati lost to Memphis
Boise State lost to BYU
App State lost to Georgia Southern but beat UNC who lost to Clemson on a failed two-point conversion and beat USC who beat number 4 Georgia.
Memphis goes to Cotton Bowl and their reward for going 12-1 will be....Alabama
That will be fun.
And when Memphis wins it will be because Alabama didn’t care, they weren’t playing for anything

Yep, and it also proves that App State would be a nice add to the toolkit for the AAC in football. I'm not sure why the hesitation. They have to be an improvement over UConn.

Huh?
What it says is "As fine of a season as they’ve had, it is debatable whether the Mountaineers should be ranked at all if examined objectively."
And it is in no way talking about what a program or institution brings to the table as a conference member. (I'll go on record again: App State doesn't advance the strategic agenda of looking more like the P5, so my answer is "no".)
