Been a lot of comparisons with this JMU team to the 2016/17 teams. If that means a close win over Monmouth, followed by 2 blowouts and a trip to Texas I'm all about that life.

RE: 2nd Rd playoffs: Monmouth (11-2/6-0) @ #2 JMU (11-1/8-0), Saturday, 12/7, 1 PM
I'm a little concerned about starting the game a little slow. That's the only disadvantage to having the week off... the possibility they could take a little time to get back into their stride.
The beginning of the Monmouth/Holy Cross game was a bit of a struggle to both teams. Monmouth finally got things going but hoping the home field advantage we have could disrupt them. They played in Montana, so they have played in pretty hostile conditions.
If our team starts out strong, I don't think Monmouth has any shot in this game. If we start slow and Monmouth keeps it close, their confidence will build and it could be a long day.
I do have a ton of faith in this team and the coaching staff. I think it's important to make a strong statement this week because I think that confidence can carry them through the playoffs. Our team has very few weaknesses and still has yet to play their best football. No better time to peak than now.

They also had a poor special teams performance last week against one of the worst special teams units in the country.
We’d have to be at least -3 in turnovers and playing uncharacteristically bad offense AND defense to let this be a football game for Monmouth.
Their QB may also not be 100%.
Plus squeaking these wins out:
16-14 win at 1-10 Wagner (Guerriero 94 yds, 1 TD)
24-21 win over 4-8 Lafayette (Guerriero 152, 1 TD)
They must have been really "off" in those games.
*Also, Montana held Guerriero to 47 yards rushing and 1-10 Presbyterian held him to 81, 3-9 North Alabama - 92 yards
Their QB Bahar was the leading rusher against Kennesaw State w/ 92 yards
Guerriero's 200+ yard games have come against sub par teams and are skewing his #'s
I am just feeling the Dukes will hand them a major butt kicking

i'd be shocked, and downright concerned big time, if we started this game slowly.
we have a lot of seniors who know this is it. the next game could be their last.
and they have the stink of last year still hanging around.
they will be more fired up then we've seen them all year.
and each round we win, they'll probably be even more jacked up as it gets closer to the only goal they've had all year (in reality).
i expect us to come out shitting fire and on point from the first snap.
if the crowd can get behind that energy and bring noise Monmouth is not used to, the game could be over in the first half (see the S'_'SU games).

Yep! This should be no contest. Our offense is a million times better than their defense, and our defense is 27 million times better than their offense. We held a Big 12 team to 34 yards rushing and a 1.4 yard per tote average. If we play the way we have played all season, I don't see Monmouth getting more than 80 yards rushing, and I seriously doubt they get that much. Hence, they will become one-dimensional and our pressure defense is going to wreck their hopes of passing their way past us. That's how I see this game.

Shhh. We're supposed to be scared. Keep in mind too that some of those sub-100 yard rushing games are against REALLY bad rushing D teams. Some of those teams are bottom 15-25 in the nation statistically but somehow still under 100 yards rushing?

Exactly what our mission is defensively and exactly what I think we'll do. Couldn't agree more.

Sorry...haven't checked this in awhile. Just purchased some side panels for ours before the last game. Some advice...check the width of your panels vs. your tent. I got basically the cheapest ones Amazon had to offer and they're too big, so they were flapping big time - granted P-lot isn't nearly as windy as the hill, but something to keep in mind. Ended up buying a grommet kit so we could string and stake at least the bottom of the panels.

Hey, he can dream. 35 points against the JMU defense? bahahahaha
The only team that scored more than 35 on us was Stony Brook and they did it thanks to a 28 point swing in their favor from the officials. I would hope the refs aren't that deep in it for Monmouth this week.

So I went overboard on research. Measured my tent and looked for matching panels from the manufacturer (nope). Then looked for generics in purple - kept finding stuff that was purple on one side only (gray on the other). Found some purple-purple in other sizes. Finally found a site that showed purple-purple in my size; alas when they showed up they were only purple one-sided. On the flip side, they fit perfectly and have attachment points at perfect spots, so I'm just going to call it good. Still might send a kind-but-disappointed message to the website that their photos are misleading.

Teams have had a little success against us on trickery and going vertical (at least in the first half of the season) I expect Monmouth to try both. It would not shock me at all to see a flea flicker or reverse pass very early in the game, ala Vilanova. Their big problem, I think, is that what they want to do is run the ball and that is our strength. They may be forced into attacking the weaker part (not weak but weaker) of our defense because they can't get a run game going. I expect a lot of long passes attempted and a few trick plays early on to get their confidence up. The flip side, is that to go deep you need time so there is a very good chance the guys up front get multiple sacks this game as tehir QB with limited mobility due to injury has to wait for routes to develop.

I am very interested to see how Groulx and Thurston play with the rest of 1st team in the first half......with Adeeb sitting out the 1st half.
I think those 2 are going to perform solid plugging in along-side Carter/Greene/Daka (& Green)

I'm pre-confident based on how this team improved through the year - but there's sill a little bit of "how will this team (Ben and Cig) do when the playoffs get tough?" in the back of "my" mind. Curt is 0-2 as head coach in the FCS playoffs. Ben (last year) struggled in high tension games. I think we are significantly better than Monmouth, but I do wonder how we look against better competition when we get to the round of 8. Withers laid eggs in big playoff games. Mathews and Houston, while not winning all their playoff games, always seemed to have their teams ready. I'm confident in Ben and Curt - but I've not seen them in final 8 competition yet.

Cig is 0-2 because his teams that made it were shells of their formal selves after major injuries to key players both years. Ben has preformed well in high tension games this season already (SBU, Nova) and aside from one pass he played well at WVU. This team is saying and doing all the right things to make a run at the NC

This. Particularly last year that Elon team probably should have not have even been in the playoffs and had all its best players out for the season.

It was also Elon and didn’t have the built in-depth that JMU has. He walked into a completely bare cupboard.
