He probably pay uconn at this point just to get away.
Edsal: I'll give you threefiddy if I can escape this shiteshow today
The shiteshow is of his own making. If he didn’t bail in the dead of night after our Fiesta Bowl appearance, odds are that we would have been good enough to get the last ACC invite instead of Louisville.
Don’t feel bad for Randy. Let him wallow in the shite he created.

Well if that's true, double **** Edsall. I've heard if the ACC didn't snatch Louisville, there's a good chance they would have been on the last life boat out of the old Big East along with Cincinnati.

Cincinnati wasn’t ever even in the ACC conversation. That is the part.

Yet here you are. A football team without a home, with no chance of ever getting one. Now that's funny.

Nope. The fact that Xavier has relegated you to “Little Brother” status in a joke that your fan base created is funny.

OK, Skippy.
Have fun with the Xavier folks. You all should fit right in.

They are already unbearable. “Let’s go X”? That dumb arm crossing X thing. The fact that their fans look like a bunch of geriatric preppy d@uchecanoes? We already hate them more than we ever could have hated you guys. But maybe that is what will make it more fun.

Interesting he brought up the paper, that has since just about folded, and the smart aleck writer, gotta be caulkins.

The paper is offering $1/ month. They've pathetically collapsed. I thought he actually generically meant Local Sports Media, because he referenced "there is a group." Caulkins was the lead writer for Commercial Appeal insulting Memphis.
Peter Edmiston and Ron Tillery tickled each other's jollies off every morning ON talk radio like giggly little school girls on our way to work, making fun of Memphis playing in "Conference America."
That's just Stupid business whoever runs these Networks. I think they ignorantly assumed we were all SEC Homers in the Memphis market that would fall in line and address us likewise...which is confirmation just how out of touch and clueless the Leaders running these Networks were.
To this day I still don't see what they were thinking. I get that the Big East is a better conference in basketball than the American.
But this isn't the Big East that had Notre Dame, Syracuse, Louisville, Cincinnati, etc. Don't get me wrong, the Catholic schools are highly invested in their programs and perform very well. But the Mega Media contracts from having football are starting to bleed into basketball. Just look at the top 25 right now. You primarily see ACC, SEC, Big 10, Big 12, and PAC-12 teams. If UConn were pulling its weight the American would be just as good as the Big East right now.
Even then it seems like it would have been much more wise to just lobbied for expansion, rather than leave. Adding VCU and SLU would have brought the American pretty close to the Big East.

Memphis hasnt had a good sportswriter since Al Dunning. He pissed me off but he knew football.

I will always respect Tommy West for his exit speech. I actually think it made a difference.

I understand the West drama-filled tirade is an irresistible lure for reporters and fans, but his comments should be understood in perspective and context.
1. West was a well compensated coach act the time of his firing,
2. Unlike some coaches, he did not offer to cut his salary to fund assistants or facilties,
3. Recruiting suffered after West’s heart attack,
4. West’s rant was exceptionally unprofessional and harmed the reputation of the program,
5. The decision to build up the program was made before West’s rant,
6. Firing West was one of the steps of rebuilding the program.

4. Unprofessional? Maybe. Probably. Harmed the reputation of the program??? WHAT reputation? If anything, he put our name in the headlines of a nation, half of which never heard of us. It brought publicity to our program at a time when publicity was hard to come by.
5. There is a big difference between "decision" and "execution". I'll give you an example which should clarify my point. Rip Scherer and the athletic department "decided" to build a new football facility, so they parked a bunch of backhoes in the parking lot.... for a year. Nothing came of it. IOW, Tommy forced their hand.
