Managing to contradict yourself without even adding a legit second sentence is impressive.

See, you think you are smarter than me, but you just helped me prove that I'm not a nobody.

Hahaha, I do??

Big game starting soon against Towson. The Tigers figure if they win today and against Elon on Saturday that they will lock up the #3 seed (because they assume that we will lose to JMU on Saturday).

Time to disabuse them of that notion, in a big way! Assert dominance. Big game for Eva. Big game for Victoria. Big game for Sydney. Heck, might as well just say "Big game for everybody"!

RE: Women's Basketball 2019-20
Tribe win 66-62. Had a 15 point lead with 7-8 minutes left but Towson made a run. The team hung tough, though, and Victoria Reynolds made two free throws with 2.4 seconds left to ice it.

21 wins - program record. 12 CAA wins - program record. #3 seed in the CAAT - program record. Still one game to go against JMU on Saturday.

Hodgson got 27, suffering no letdown in her POY campaign. However, her best play occurred with about 4 minutes left in the 3rd period. She drove to the basket without the ball and the passer tried to thread the needle. Eva couldn't handle the pass and both she and the ball were hurtling out of bounds. Before touching down out of bounds, however, Eva flipped the ball back to a teammate, keeping the possession alive. She then got the basket later in the possession. POY!

I don't know if the announcing crew of Andrew Phillips and Julie Leach read TribeTalk but if they do, here is a comment for you:

Please, please, please stop applying the "announcer's jinx" to the Tribe every single game!!! You know what it is because you comment on it yourselves as soon as you do it --- so don't do it!!!! Think in advance and shut the h*ll up when the Tribe is on the free throw line. If you must do it, then do it to the other team! There is plenty of time to talk about the Tribe's great FT shooting --- just don't do it right when they go to the line!

RE: Women's Basketball 2019-20
Tribe loses on Senior Day to JMU by 11 or 13 or something like that. I thought Eva Hodgson played very tight this game, especially in the first half. Many shots were out of control, some others were blocked --- and she still got her game-high 20 points!!! Shows what a great player she is that she can have a definite off game but still maintain her CAA-leading PPG. BTW, Kamiah Smalls of JMU got only 10 points --- but everyone seems to think that all the POY ballots are already in, so her bad game probably didn't hurt her candidacy. (But, okay, why the heck are people voting before the last games are even done? Especially in this case where the two frontrunners were playing against each other in the last game).

Gratified that Andrew Phillips and/or Julie Leach read my last post and managed to avoid applying the announcer's jinx to W&M. (Eva did miss one FT but can't blame it on the jinx). Speaking of free throws, Bailey Eichner lost credit for one FT make because Bre Bellamy had a lane violation. It came at a crucial juncture because the point there would have tied the game.

The one baseline official had a bad game. There was one sequence where he factored in three plays and all of them went against the Tribe. The first involved a play where Eva saved a ball out of bounds and then a shot was missed and the rebound was knocked straight back to Eva. She caught it in bounds and was dribbling when the ref whistled that she had caught it out of bounds. The replay clearly showed that she was already safely back in bounds when she caught the ball. Costly because the Tribe was down only 4 at that point. Then the next time down the court Victoria Reynolds was flat on her back while JMU rebounded and passed upcourt. However, that same ref whistled for a stoppage of play to see if Vic would have a flagrant foul called against her for trying to trip the JMU player with her leg. The replay showed that she was just moving her leg in an attempt to prepare to get up. Fortunately, the review indicated likewise. Then, soon after, that same ref whistled for the lane violation (which, frankly, any ref could probably whistle on any free throw). At that point, I knew it was over.

Lastly, the Tribe needs to learn to "secure the rebound" (as the announcers call it). Instead of grabbing with both hands, Eichner, especially, likes to tap the ball outside. Unfortunately, the ball invariably goes to the opponent rather than to the Tribe. Just "secure the rebound"!!

I don't want to be remiss about congratulating the Tribe Seniors on a stellar career (most wins ever for a graduating class). Ashley Taylor got the start along with Victoria Reynolds. Vic has had a GREAT career and her contributions will be sorely missed in future. Hopefully she will have a great CAA Tournament.

Good luck, ladies!!!

JMU is a good team. The reason we had trouble getting to the hoop is their size. They go 5'10, 5'10", 5'10", 6'1", 6'2". The good news is that they start four seniors. Zorch, I'm pretty sure you have to have both feet back in bounds before you touch the ball. Hodgson only had one in and one in the air when she caught the ball. Saw both the other ones and agree.

We lost because we shot 28% from the field. We can beat both JMU and Drexel.

Eva netted 20 on a bad afternoon while Victoria had 18 on her final home game. Nobody else had double digits.

JMU forced 7 Tribe turnovers with steals and blocked 6 W&M shots.

I don't agree that Hodgson had a bad game. 5-12 from the floor was off from her 55% normally, but 2 assists, 2 rebounds and a block with only 2 turnovers. The problem today was that we got nothing out of anyone other than Hodgson and Reynolds. 12 combined points from Bellamy, Rogers, Pollard and Wagner (they average 26)

What is this, some wacky NFL rule? I would think (but would apparently be wrong) that one foot in and one foot in the air (but NOT touching the floor out of bounds) would make you in bounds. In other words, if one foot (or any other body part) is touching the floor out of bounds then you are out of bounds; otherwise, you are in bounds.

Yes, the stats may have been normal but anyone who has seen her this year and who also saw this game (and I know you did because although nobody watches women's basketball I know that you are a huge fan) knows that she was off her game and was pressing. So, maybe that should be attributed to JMU's very good defense but, regardless, she was not the Eva that I have been spoiled to come to expect.

Since it is apparent that W&M cannot score inside against JMU, how about for the tournament (assuming both teams make the semifinals) that W&M have more of a "bombs away" approach. Hodgson is a great three point shooter, as is Wagner. Reynolds, Pollard, and, off the bench, Krause and Birdsong can all shoot the three. Once we start making some, that will also open up the interior for some of Hodgson's patented drives to the basket. Just my thought -- but we have lost twice to JMU by double digits playing the normal way.

Once you've been out of bounds you have to get both feet back in bounds to establish yourself as in. At least that's how I remember it when I was a intramural/rec league ref...several decades ago. (Thanks, Dudley Jensen!)
