Not going to disagree, HOF 08. You were there; I saw most on espn+. Didn't have chance to watch game from start to finish. Musta caught the "good" parts, so different impressions. That said, Dog Fan adds a good perspective.

Looking at game stats ... Harvard-NIU tied on off rebounds; edge to Crimson on def. boards (+8). Starks 2/4 and Koker 2/5 on threes, but overall Huskies were not hitting long. Northern shot a dismal 22.1% overall (Harvard 34.4%). Nobody's going to win a lot of games with that kind of shooting.

Lot of work to do. Again, just one game.

On to NDSU. 1st-year head coach, 1 yr asst at Kansas, but very good record at DII (career 199-56).

Starters returning: #21 Rylee Nudell (8.6 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 45% FG), #22 Michelle Gaislerova (14.4 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 75 3’s), #34 Emily Dietz (9.1 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 46% FG). Some height: 6-2 jr, 6-3 jr., 6-3 fr. Young team. 14 players listed incl. 5 frosh, 3 sophs.

Info is from their website. I included player #s if you catch it on espn+.

Keep posting the WBB info...I think we can both agree it would be nice to have a plan B when the 3’s aren’t falling.

3’s are plan B. Plan A is to get out and push the ball in transition. That’s always been the case with Carlsen’s teams going back to days at Lewis. Up tempo! The problem is that after Plan A & B there isn’t much in the way of attacking the lane.

I think the departure of Coach McGinty is going to have a huge impact on this season. He was the “left brain” to Carlsen’s “right brain”. I’ve never been a fan of Tandez as a coach. Great guy but he’s a cheerleader.

Agree with a lot of what you say...I don’t mind certain players on the team shooting 3’s but without naming names other players should not be looking to shoot a 3 but it appears everyone has the green light regardless... very tough to live and die by the 3 for an entire season and agree with AT also

I was going to make a comment like yours about AT, 62423dp, but held off, so consider this agreement with you and HOF 08. Also noted (in what I saw on tv) that Myia Starks was trying to drive inside but hit a wall of 6-footers inside a number of times. NIU has some 6-footers. Where are they?

Harken back to the "Olden Times" when record-setter Carol Owens and Tammy Hinchee were the Huskies' "bigs" inside. They had this little play (Harvard ran it a number of times on Tues. with success) where a guard would just lob it inside. Owens or Hinchee would take the dribble to avoid a travel, turn and pop a 4- to 5-footer over the top. Lot of success with that, and difficult to defend. Possible plan C?

And I ask again ... where were/are NIU's 6-footers?

Note: NDSU is at Northern Iowa tonight, 6:30 p.m. tipoff, espn+ listed. May tune in to see how their bigs do. As noted, they have two 6-3 and a 6-2. Also noted they have #10 Nicole Scales G 5-9 Fr. Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South HS; 2-time all-state. holds MSHS girls' season records for most 3-ptrs and highest freethrow %.

Height certainly helps on defense, but it's not everything in women's basketball. Witness one Lauren Dickerson, 5'3" senior guard on Miami (Ohio). She's by far one of the very best players in the conference. I have watched her play over the last 3 years and am glad this is her last. She is tiny, but when I see her scurrying around the floor in her head scarf, I start to shake. Scoring 25 points for her is expected, and she rarely fails to live up to expectations.

I do agree we could use some big bruisers to bang around under the net and have said this for years. Not just height, but some weight also. But, I assume players like this are not easy to find, and I am not sure Coach Carlsen is going after this type of player. She seems to concentrate on the speedy gazelles. I really would like to see a bruiser under the net, however!

RE: WBB Weekly Thread 10/27 to ...
Just went over the NDSU-UNI stats, and could draw a buncha conclusions that wouldn't mean much. Also watched some on ESPN+ last night.

NDSU lost 95-63, but scored 10 more points against UNI than Northern did against Harvard. After seeing a chunk of both games, I can honestly say Harvard ain't no UNI. Would probably do to the Crimson nearly what they did to NDSU.

Anyway, NDSU scored 28 points in the paint, and they do that inside lob-to-a-post like Harvard used against NIU first half on Tues. They also got 22 points from three freshmen off their bench. And they don't try a ton of threes (14) but they hit about a third (5).

Send your positive thoughts northward on Sunday. NDSU has a first year coach and they will be looking for their first win, at home.

Game is 1 p.m. on ESPN+.

Go Huskies!

This game will not be easy for the women, and the UNI game will not be easy for the men. This will be a tough weekend.
