Highlights:
1. A slimmer Quinones is “bouncy”.
2. The Lawson brothers have been actively playing their defensive and rebounding roles.
3. Nolley’s three point shooting is still of high quality.
4. Bates may be the best on ball driver since Chris Douglas Roberts.
5. Duren has held his own on defense against Williams.

That doesn't feel like a schedule of a team hoping to make the tourney.

Imo it's the schedule of a team who has not been very good lately, has a brand new coach, and a roster that's cobbled together. UC just needs to get back to winning ANY games, not getting beat down in tough ooc games. Next year or the year after is when they should be looking to make a much stronger ooc

Terrnace has a sort of texas legend status as he is known for hitting a crazy game tying 3pt shot in the state title game to go to OT....and theN hitting another crazy 3 with seconds to win the game in OT to claim the state title (Video in the Clip Below)
random fact (the player hugging him the video, with jersey #3, his teammate is also a top 40 recruit, and one of Houston's biggest targets for the 2023 class)
from aau:
from nba's top 100 camp:

lol i was actually saving this line for a while till the rumored commits started coming in but the big 12 rumors kinda makes this line pintless
"Houston was owning the aac with undersized juco and low 3stars - rob gray, corey davis, galen robinson, breaon brady and armoni brooks"
"Houston then went to the final 4 in the aac with 2nd chance transfers - quentin grimes, dejon jarreau, reggie chaney, justin gorham"
"Houston is now getting elite recruits... whats houston going to do with that!!!!..."
but comping to the big 12 wnt be an apples-to-apples comparison tho lol...
but here is an article from 247 with a mini Terrance interview and the talking about the monster class Houston is putting together

Looking at some of the pre-season rankings (for Houston, Memphis, Wichita St., Tulsa, SMU, & UCF), it looks like the AAC might be a pretty strong conference in 2021-22, with more teams battling for NCAA and NIT bids.
The American may also be more competitive, overall. It was stronger, top to bottom last season than it had been in years (all 11 teams finished in the top 150), and 1 or 2 of the lower-tier AAC teams may be able to move into the top 100 this season.

I'm actually expecting a great season for the AAC this year.

UC has received multiple crystal balls for 4* wing Daniel Skillings out of Philly for the 2022 class. 6'6 guard that is a plus shooter and athlete. Reminds me a lot of Jacob Evans and is probably similarly under ranked heading into his senior season. Eric Bossi at 247 thinks he could push into the top 50 by the end of the year. He announces today at 3 PM - Pitt, NC State, Miami and Va Tech are the other finalists.

Rob Gray, Corey Davis, Galen Robinson, Breaon Brady and Armoni Brooks never won an AAC tournament title :)
He looks like a great get though. The value added stats and winning plays gives me Gary Clark vibes, but this guy is clearly much more highly touted and perimeter oriented. Congrats. Hopefully, Skillings is the first of many top 100 recruits that Wes pulls in to bring us back to Houston's level.

Doesn't change where Houston's high ceiling is as they bring in highly talented recruits under Sampson, but it is woefully inaccurate to say Houston was owning the American with those guys mentioned. Houston has 2 conference regular season titles (one shared after those guys were gone, one outright) and 1 conference tournament title (which happened after the guys mentioned were all off the roster). Houston's run at the top of the American started really in 2019, and that was the end of that era mentioned. It does sound better when phrased like that I suppose, and it's just semantics, but it's pretty clearly inaccurate.

I previewed this and said as much earlier in the thread, but it really isn't. They pulled enough talent out of the portal to be competitive in the upper half of the American, but it's not really a roster you can sit there and say it's competitive nationally. Maybe they are lucky and sneak into the very edge of the tourney, but that's not the most likely scenario. NIT would be a good end result for UC I feel like. Less than that would be ugly.
This is pretty clearly a reset year for UC. The damage done to the roster by Brannen cannot really be understated.

"houston only has 2 conference titles" using conference titles to define owning, when the aac doesn't have even schedules is the part that's misleading lol.... 100% media openly says there was a major gap between Houston and the rest of the league last year...trying to pretend Houston wasnt "owning" the league because someone got a super ease path to the title doesnt change my point..
also i was talking about being a contender/NCAA team in general, not that Houston was the only team owning the league at those times

"Owning the league" is some serious revisionist history. What's the time frame 2020-21 season? You said "Rob Gray, Corey Davis, Galen Robinson" so lets look at 2015-2018
2015: 3rd, no conference title, no tournament title game, unranked
2016: 3rd, no conference title, no tournament title game, unranked
2017: 3rd, no conference title, no tournament title game, AP = 21
2018: 1st, outright conference title, lost tournament title game, AP = 11
So what is your definition of "owning"?
