RE: Unofficial 2021 Men's Basketball Recruiting Thread
Given our piss poor record which only adds more uncertainity to the head coaching situation I don't expect a stellar class to help us move up the MAC letter. We may looking at transfers only if Murphy stays.

Wetherbe should not allow Murphy to sign any players so that the new coach can clean house.

He should have been fired a month ago.

Recruiting is in a deep freeze until the status of Murphy and staff is determined.

I watched his game vs. Ferndale tonight. Chad and Matt did the game.
When I turned the game off he was 11 - 16 behind the arc. Might have scored like 40 points.
Amazing show.
Yes but until our coaching situation becomes clearer who are we going to sign?

He's a HS kid therefore Murphy wouldn't even look at him. Another reason why we need a new coach. Remember when we'd seen good local prospect and wonder if he might end up a EMU?

We offered him early. We were his first offer.

Yeah he may want to stay close to home and choose the school over the coach. This is why to me a new coach would be wise to retain one assistant like Matt Cline. If this performance continues he will get more offers.

RE: Unofficial 2021 Men's Basketball Recruiting Thread
I agree with this post:
"RE: Transfer portal
close to 1/3 of all D1 college players are already in the portal with more expected to add their names. some of these guys will not end up transferring and return to their original schools. some others may not get any offers. tough year to be a juco or under the radar hs recruit. lots of talented guys will get overlooked or end up at D2 or small college schools next year. "
I have been almost 100% focused on transfers, but a wise coach may 'look where others are not looking.'
Sometimes success is doing the opposite of what others are doing. Just remember 2021 is UNLIKE another year we've seen and that 2022 will be much different. 2022 should be different depending on what the NCAA does on immediate transfers. Eliminate the one year sit out and MM and LM programs can become farm systems for HM programs.
It would be:
1). 5 star recruits - G-League or HM 'one and done'
2). 4 star recruits - how the big boys will build their programs with an occasional star transfer tossed in to fill holes. Kind of like a Triple A call up in MLB. "We need a SF who can shoot 35 - 40% behind the arc."
3). 3 star recruits - where most HM programs make their recruiting living.
4). 2 star recruits - MM and LM live here. They risk losing good players after say 2 years to HM programs. Will it crush all of the Cinderella teams out there?

I agree 2020 guys who went post grad for a year 2021 high school players who improved in their senior year and jucos, may be overlooked and with all the new coaches previous offers may be pulled by the new staff

Agree, BUT, whomever is the new HC will have his own list of recruits he was recruiting from his last job.
Let's assume for the sake of discussion that the chosen one is either Eisley, Stephens, or Haynes (I chose them for a REASON). All three are B1G asst coaches. How does this 2021 recruiting contacts translate to a MAC team?
Would a recruit hoping for a UofM/MSU/Md offer be open to a MAC offer?
Thomas, OTOH, would be recruiting from the same barrel as are MAC coaches. Lot of recruiting across Pittsburgh, Ohio and some MI.
