Tend to agree...if you don't see anything by the 3rd season it isn't happening. The hard part is he somehow gets to 5-6 wins do you keep him?

Who knows with Rutgers. A 4 and 8 season got him an extension so he has 4 years left on his contract after last years disaster at 1 and 11. Rutgers might not have the money yet to pay him and his staff off. Based on past history 4-6 wins might save his job with Rutgers money problems. They are not getting a full B-10 share yet. An upset over one of Michigan, Iowa, Michigan St, Ohio St, or Penn St with 4 other wins would probably save his job for another year though. 04-cheers

Personally, I think UConn should be doubling and tripling down on their New York City presence, especially given the Big East return. Play a game at Yankee Stadium every year. Make it an annual tradition and do all sorts of alumni and outreach stuff as part of it. I went to UConn-Army there a couple years ago and all the bars immediately around the stadium set up to handle big baseball crowds turn into college-team-themed bars very easily. It was a good time.

Where was the Notre Dame series supposed to be? East Rutherford?

UConn could try to get a few games there as well. Maybe Penn State.

What about Gillette, it's closer to your campus than ours. We've worked through the FBS transition and no longer need to play there. All teams, are playing on campus including BYU and UConn.

Mike033, not sure who the cream puff is since we beat UConn last year at their house. We also beat BYU at BYU and the Sun Belt conference champs App State at home.

Anyhoo, anybody think UConn and Temple will schedule each other again?

It’s extremely likely that they do. Since moving to the AAC Temple has focused on scheduling G5 OOC games within bus distance of campus. There aren’t too many G5 schools that meet that requirement.

It’s a good game for both schools. The travel costs are reasonable for both teams. I think for both sides it generates a little more interest than a MAC or CUSA opponent. I expect a series to be scheduled. When and how many games remain to be seen.

I would say yes. Temple needs close regional games with the AAC spread so far out. Losing UConn as a regional conference mate forces Temple to travel farther for that 8th conference game now. Temple needs regional games with UConn, Penn ST, Maryland, Syracuse, Army, Rutgers, PITT, and even BC if it can get games with them in their OOC schedule because of the distance of travel with in the conference. 07-coffee3

RE: Predict UConn’s Indy FB schedule 2020
I see yearly or nearly yearly games against regional foes UMass, Army and Temple. I see a rotation of local P5 programs like Rutgers, Cuse, BC, Maryland and Pitt. Not all at once but one or two of those most years. I see the rest of the independents not named Notre Dame showing up late in the season. November games against BYU, Liberty and New Mexico. I see a late season FCS opponent, probably mid-October or later. I see a body bag game on the road against a "name" P5 program almost every year. They just will need the money. You will see schedules that are heavy on early road games.

So an example of a possible UConn schedule in a few years from now will probably look like this.

@LSU (body bag game)
Wake (series tied in with a BBall agreement)
@Temple (part of a long running H&H)
@Northwestern (series tied in with BBall agreement)
Marshall
@Cuse
New Mexico State (part of a long running H&H)
@BYU (part of a long running H&H)
Monmouth
Liberty (part of a long running H&H)
@Army (part of a long running H&H)
UMass (part of a long running H&H)

I agree. And seeing the Big Ten dipping back into FCS, especially the three eastern schools going right to CAAF (and Big South, as Monmouth gets a date with Rutgers), Temple is in a more difficult spot. Temple is finding its way onto other schedules, but it will be a revolving arrangement for sure. UMass appears to be a running thing, but there's a better bond between them given the A10 and MAC/FBS sponsorship thing. UConn probably could be the same to Temple, but it will depend on how the AAC handles the football loss with conference scheduling (nine game slate, anyone?).

It was awesome that Temple finally got over the hump and beat Penn State, but that practically doomed Temple's spot on the schedule in the process. Penn State made that game a pretty much a lock when it transitioned to the Big Ten because Temple gave them those 2-1's. Temple found its football legs while PSU stumbled under their own, and for that, Temple has a little more work to do than it used to, as Penn State explores other scheduling options. Pitt hasn't been kind since Temple got dumped all those years ago. It just emphasizes how Temple must keep the lines open for BC, Syracuse, Rutgers, and UMD when it didn't need to as much before. And Penn State would give a return game to Temple...others may not be as willing less they also get what Temple had with Penn State.

I do wonder what there is to diplomacy and politics should Temple help "take care of" UConn football, making games a consistent thing. I doubt Temple killed off the idea of regaining equal footing with Villanova, and making good with someone in the Big East wouldn't be the worst thing...

Temple has games scheduled against or has recently played all of the teams you and Panite have mentioned except for Syracuse and Pitt. Neither of those two seem to have an interest in scheduling Temple. As one would expect Temple is getting games against the ACC and B1G schools that can’t afford to annually buy G5 games. They’ve also got a H-H with Penn State and a 2-1 with Oklahoma. PSU having a 9 game conference schedule means Temple is only going to get a couple of games each decade against PSU, but PSU still wants to play in Philly so Temple will get the occasional series against them.

Temple scheduling UConn has nothing to do with diplomacy or Villanova. Temple is looking for one G5 OOC game annually and the game fits the scheduling needs for both schools. They don’t need UConn to be on the schedule consistently. They just need UConn as part of a rotation of G5 games. Functionally they’re no different than UMass which Temple also has on future schedules. If UConn wants some sort of long-term commitment from Temple they most likely are going to have to throw in a basketball series.

There is no one in this board that knows less about Temple but pretends to be an expert like this poster. From bizarre comparisons to St. Joes to ignoring that Temple has more home and home games with P5 teams than anybody in the American, do yourself a favor and ignore his/her ramblings when Temple comes up.

Never fails. Glad the compliment paid to both St. Joe's and Temple still doesn't sit well with you. Cheers!

Color me peachy that Temple has a schedule built up and out for the future. But, be reasonable. The only close bus trips Temple football gets in the conference are games with a team situated on the other side of the division in Navy. It's a unique situation that really only Temple and West Virginia have, but Temple isn't pulling in West Virginia money. Is it a huge blow losing UConn from the slate? No. Does Temple NEED UConn? No. But, are there are benefits to having them around. Clearly, Temple has kept great channels open with MAC and UMass. They're doing this right. But stop fooling yourself that there's a sustainable future with these upcoming P5 arrangements. Get the better of the likes of UMD, Rutgers, BC, etc., and they won't make Temple a priority. PSU did it to Temple, others can and will too. I hate that (especially since I want to see PA throw-downs and miss the annual PSU-Pitt game), but that's what FBS has become.

The B1G instituting a nine game schedule, not a Temple upset, is why PSU is playing Temple less often. With an eight game conference schedule PSU would gladly continue 2-1 deals with Temple. They want to play in Philly periodically and Temple won’t agree to playing in State College only which is why they haven’t entirely dumped Temple from their schedule. I’m certain the Nits aren’t worried about losing to Temple.

If Temple wanted a guaranteed close G5 series they could pick up the phone and get a 10 game series with UMass in a matter of minutes. UMass would agree to it not because of a great relationship but because they need the games, need them with regional schools and they want long-term series as much as they can get them. I expect Temple to schedule UConn, but it’s not as though Temple can’t meet its G5 scheduling needs without UConn.

The P5s who’ve scheduled Temple are doing it because it meets their financial needs and other interests such as recruiting, proximity to alumni, winnable game, etc. If Temple transforms into UCF then maybe it gets more difficult to get some of the P5 games scheduled. As a Temple fan that’s a problem I’d like to have.

Temple football flew to most MAC opponents plus they had to fly men’s and women’s basketball to MAC schools as well. Being a geographic outlier for football isn’t new for Temple.

It makes sense for both Army and Temple to play UConn And UMass annually.

Temple needs local games.

Army needs schools willing to schedule in November and being in comfortable driving distance from West Point certainly is an added plus.

Buffalo is another that makes perfect sense as all of their conference opponents are in the Midwest.

Makes no sense for Temple which needs one G5 OOC game not two. Temple and Army agreed to terminate their most recent series so that Temple could schedule the Georgia Tech series and Army could start their UMass series. Buffalo ends a series with Temple this year and starts a six game series with UMass in a few years. Buffalo will presumably appear UConn’s schedule too.

Actually 2 G5 series makes perfect sense:

FCS opponent @ Home
G5 series A (alternating sites)
G5 series B (alternating sites)
P5 opponent (usually on the road)

You get 6, maybe 7 home games a year

Temple has 7 home games this year including 2 P5 games. They have 6 home every year. One P5 away, one P5 home, 1 G5 home/away, 1 FCS home. This isn’t complicated.

Or Temple does what they are already scheduled to starting this year and going forward and continue to get home and home series with P5 teams. I can assure you that adding a 2nd P5 in 2024, 2026 and 2027 plus regional G5 /FCS teams will not be an issue......

2019- Bucknell, Maryland, at Buffalo, Georgia Tech
2020- at Miami (FL), Idaho, Rutgers, at Umass

2022- at Duke, Rutgers, Umass
2023- Akron, at Rutgers, Miami (FL)

2025- Oklahoma, at Georgia Tech
