Expected Annual H/H games
Notre Dame
BYU

Syracuse
Boston College
UMASS - as one of the annual creampuff warm-up games - probably 1st thru 3rd game annually

Annual SEC/ACC scheduling agreement with 2 teams from each conf - H/H in Perpetuity
Typical annual matchups will include:
Florida State
Miami
North Carolina
Virginia
Alabama
Florida
Tennessee
Georgia

Annual Buy game for guaranteed home game
Any MAC/CUSA/MWC team will do here - no need to give it much more thought than that.

So here is a sample schedule I expect to see from UCONN in 2023 perhaps. I'm guessing 1 to 2 games a year could be neutral site games like Gillette Stadium or the Giant's home stadium.

UMASS
Alabama
Miami (FL)
Army
Georgia
Navy
North Carolina
BYU
Notre Dame
Marshall
Syracuse
Boston College

I think it is very unlikely that ND will play annual games against UConn or have a home/home series with UConn.

ND may offer a buy game in South Bend, maybe even that game combined with one at Gillette Stadium (or Fenway Park or Yankee Stadium or MetLife Stadium) but that would likely be the extent of it.

I wouldn't be so sure that the ACC or the SEC schools will go for home-and-home with an independent UConn. 1 off payday games or 2-1 maybe, but it would be a the weaker of the old Big East teams now in the ACC primarily, but even then I don’t see BC or Cuse agreeing to play every year. There is no scenario where Bama, Florida, Georgia, Miami, FSU or Tennessee give UConn 1 for 1 home and homes or probably even 2-1 terms. What possible benefit would there be for SEC teams to travel to a recruiting dead zone to play in front of an empty stadium in a non-tourist destination city in a game that won’t be televised or streamed nationally against a completely mediocre opponent? I think your regular opponents for alternating annual home and home will be Army, UMass, Liberty, New Mexico State, 5-6 G5 teams (MAC heavy, looking at you UBuffalo), 1 payday game or 2-1 against BYU or a middling P5 program and then an FCS school or 2, until they wise up and drop down to the CAA in FCS.

travel to a recruiting dead zone to
play in front of an empty stadium
in a non-tourist destination city
in a game that won’t be televised or streamed nationally
against a completely mediocre opponent

This is a painfully depressing description.... and sadly true.

As I mentioned above, I could see UConn get 1-1’s with P5’s like Wake, Duke, Indiana, Vandy, etc. they could secure larger opponents much like UMass does by playing their home game in a pro venue. In UConn’s case, Yankee Stadium; a destination venue.

Yeah I agree. They will get H&H with historically not strong P5 programs and local former rivals like Cuse, Rutgers and maybe Pitt. The only time they schedule the big dogs are when UConn is traveling to them for a one off body bag game.

Personally, I think UConn should be doubling and tripling down on their New York City presence, especially given the Big East return. Play a game at Yankee Stadium every year. Make it an annual tradition and do all sorts of alumni and outreach stuff as part of it. I went to UConn-Army there a couple years ago and all the bars immediately around the stadium set up to handle big baseball crowds turn into college-team-themed bars very easily. It was a good time.

UConn's 2020 schedule:

Tulane
Toledo
Boston College
Temple
Eastern Michigan
New Mexico State
Buffalo
USF
Liberty
Arkansas State
Army

How do I know this? Because it's UMass's 2022 schedule.

I think Army was the "home" team, but it was at Yankee Stadium regardless.

How was the crowd? I mean split between Husky fans and Woop fans?

This is entirely unscientific, but my recollection is that the crowd was pretty split between the two fan bases. UConn travels well to New York and sheer numbers mean there are a lot of veterans and military families in and around the city (and you're just down the river from West Point anyway) so neither aside drowned out the other. The showing was better than a random cold November Saturday in East Hartford, I'll tell you that (and that's coming from someone who had four years worth of football season tickets as a student and actually used them).

This^. No question.
UCONN will get H&H’s with Notre Dame and Alabama.

I sense sarcasm. No worries though. All UCONN has to do is dangle out MBB and WBB scheduling agreements with the various ACC/SEC teams to make it happen. They could probably get away with 2 for 1 BB agreements in order to secure H/H agreements for FB games with all ACC and SEC schools.

You may be right but I think the allure of including UConn men’s basketball games has been seriously diminished by the downturn under Coach Ollie. I don’t doubt that Hurley can improve the situation but, at least for the ACC schools, they are going to a 20 game MBB schedule so there will be fewer OOC games for UVa, UNC, Duke, Cuse, Wake et al each year. Those ACC schools could schedule OOC games with Nova, Georgetown, St. John’s, Providence or Seton Hall and get the recruiting, whatever-they-call-RPI now benefits of playing a Northeastern Big East team without having to deal with the football baggage that comes with the Huskies.

UConn could try to get a few games there as well. Maybe Penn State.

I know Cuse will not want to play UConn yearly. Probably more likely 2-4 times a decade. Cuse fans also do not want it a strictly H/H affair. More like a 2 for 1 or 1 at the Dome and 1 at Yankee Stadium.

If UConn survives as an independent they will probably try to rotate CUSE, Rutgers, PITT, and BC in and out of the schedule. None of those schools will want to play them annually, however they might rotate in and out 2-4 times a decade as you say. 07-coffee3

Maybe Alabama or Auburn could have them as their late OOC game before the iron bowl. It would be a buy game and it would get the FCS game off the books for them, the score will be whatever Alabama wants it to be.

With only 3 OOC games (4 for the ACC teams) and the Lambert Schools split across 4 Conferences, it would only be a 2-4 times a decade anyway. UConn probably won't have more than 2 Lambert FBS schools on the schedule in any season.

What about Gillette, it's closer to your campus than ours. We've worked through the FBS transition and no longer need to play there. All teams, are playing on campus including BYU and UConn.

Mike033, not sure who the cream puff is since we beat UConn last year at their house. We also beat BYU at BYU and the Sun Belt conference champs App State at home.

And I doubt any of the old BE rivals want to give UConn a true 1 for 1. I don't know about BC though.

To me it appears UConn is dropping down in stature to a UMass level. Unless Cuse is in a hurt schedule wise (see WMU series) not sure they are likely to do a Home n Home. Cuse announced attendance is expected to rise 7-8000 this year up to 44-45,000.

I could see both Rutgers and Cuse offering up a home game and a split the gate game 2 game series at Yankee Stadium with UConn.

Met Life is too big of a venue for Cuse/UConn. Probably for Rutgers/UConn too. However, MetLife allows September and October dates.

I could see both Rutgers and Cuse offering up a home game and a split the gate game 2 game series at Yankee Stadium with UConn.

Met Life is too big of a venue for Cuse/UConn. Probably for Rutgers/UConn too. However, MetLife allows September and October dates.

With the current state of Rutgers football UConn might be asking for the 2 for 1 as an independent. 03-lmfao 03-lmfao 03-lmfao Hopefully this is the last year under Ash and things will improve. 04-jawdrop 02-13-banana COGS 04-cheers
