Southern Miss has been playing football since 1912. We are a legitimate program with a proven record of on field success and a long history with most teams in the AAC.

Southern Miss would be my 1st Choice to add. Ignore the trolls.

Glad you aren't in charge.

Ditto that.

There is no way a team in Hattiesburg, MS will ever be joining the AAC (unless the AAC loses 7 or 8 members).

Let USM get back to their old ways of 10-2, 11-1 seasons and top 25 finishes and a lot of people will want them.

But that was against much better competition as CUSA today is basically unrecognizable. (Heck, even Tulane got promoted out of there).

With AAC focused on large cities/metro areas (helps keep cost down for Olympic Sports travel)...it will be hard for USM to ever get an all-sports invite to a bigger conf.

Only shot for USM would be for a football only invite....and they are probably 6th or 7th on that list.

The problem with most of the answers in here is that some believe that adding a team from a conference that is deemed well beneath us, does no damage. We JUST got the recognition we deserve and a contract that sets us apart from the the G4, and now some of you want to go slumming back into CUSA to backfill and act like that isnt admitting defeat.

When you are on the top of the G5 and are looking to move up, why in the hell would you add some school that is clearly below? Gerogia State, Southern Miss... Liberty? Seriously, wtf?

There is about 1 team that could be added for all sports and bring the same or greater value. Its BYU. Thats it.

If we can get ESPN to pay for expansion, then Air Force would be next up, with Boise following. AF has value and has been considered for the Big 12 twice.

If ESPN were willing, Id add Air Force and BYU as an all sports member, then Boise as Football only. If ESPN wants more Bball, then we add VCU. Then we approach Army about a 6 game scheduling agreement. Done.

Two 7 team divisions with the western side including SMU, UH, Tulsa and Navy along with the 3 new additions from the MWC.

It would certainly kneecap the MWC and all of those members are similar to current AAC membership.

I have no problem with adding 3 Western schools, with Memphis moving East.

BYU, Boise & AF would be my first choice.

Colo St & New Mexico would be fine alternates if we can't get all three above.

Wyoming I'd have to think about. Hard pass on Utah St.

Make Navy go East. Memphis should stay West for balance and for the budding UH/Memphis rivalry.

All this love for BYU and I'm trying to figure out why. Even here in western Colorado, where's there's a significant LDS population, it doesn't garner much attention.

Can you name another potential expansion candidate with more local (football attendance) or national fans?

The western wing that works is Colorado State, Boise State, SDSU, Gonzaga, BYU (football alliance six games.

14/16

BYU plays the three additions from the west every season and a rotation of the other teams, for a total of six games. They share get access to bowl games but not the access bowl.

The five western additions play each other in Olympic sports with some crossover to central region team but little crossover with eastern time zones schools.

Basketball plays a 20 game schedule with repeat games selected on opponent quality and geography.

Who cares.

1. The American doesn't sponsor three of those sports (beach volleyball, men's skiing, women's skiing).

2. It's not like New Mexico has a UConn-sized subsidy problem. Their subsidy is $11M.

3. The fact they are cutting expenses probably means they are VERY interested in the extra revenue our TV deal brings in.

We may be forced to hold our nose and pick the best available school depending on ESPN's demand and the CCG waiver approval. 03-banghead

So true... we can debate all day, but daddy (espn) will tell us what to do and we like the true gimp will just say "yes sir".

I just hope that they see the value in teh AAC and see that long term, moving BYU into our conference gives us legitimacy and strength, which only adds value to the product they just bought for the next decade.
