How many 'no's' have they heard now?
The only person that I know who has heard more no's than the UCLA AD is my buddy Tom in high school who tried to make it at one time or another with the entire cheerleading squad...…...

So basically he's finally realizing that he's not as hot of a commodity as he thought? Or is because Bohn finally decided to make him earn raises?
My guess is he gets a raise to be a top 30 type paid coach, but he felt he could push the last 3 years into more than that. I'm betting UC made a pretty reasonable offer, but Mick thinks he has more leverage than he actually has. That's just my outside perspective, but I think UC will continue to be fair to Mick and hopefully he'll have the kind of success that will give him more leverage next time around.
What do you make of the functional paycut his camp put out to Decourcey? I want to believe Bohn refused to give him an extension without adding post-season incentives and Mick tried to focus too much on the regular season wins.

Sort of surprised UCLA has not recieved much interest. They bssically recruit themselves and any coach worth their salt can dominate west coast recruiting at that job.

There are issues:
Specter of John Wooden
unrealistic expectations
Exposure issue (PAC12 games on late)
Cost of living in LA
High Taxes
UCLA May have money issues (only paid Alford $2.6M)

If he wants to have leverage, he should make some tourney runs. That's when coaches find themselves in high demand. Not saying it is always deserved, but tourney runs are what get guys paid and placed in high profile jobs.

You may on to something about the money stuff, but I think the whole John Wooden stuff gets exaggerated by the media, etc. I think if you were to talk to most UCLA fans they feel they are a top 5-10 program and want a coach that can make then that consistently. Howland is the only coach that had them there at all, but only part of hos tenure. Alford didnt even win one PAC12 title in 6 years.

No one knows because DeCourcy's article had little substance and was mostly conjecture. I'm sure his source was reliable, but not substantive enough to write as much as he did.

Mick at his interview: "You see, Virginia last night proves that defense wins championships. And I can coach defense just as good as Tony Bennett, but I can't get the athletes he can because we play in a crappy conference and just now got a new arena and blah blah blah."

Surprised Doss didn't volunteer to fly Mick himself for free to LA.

Saw Mick whiffed on Cassius Stanley. Lives 10 minutes from UCLAs campus and had been waiting for the UCLA job to get filled before he chose his school. He chose to play at Duke, and sit on the bench where he could have started at UCLA. Will be curious to see how Mick is able to recruit out there, and if it really was the program or the coach.

My suggestion to UCLA fans would be to get used to it. Cronin will get better recruits at UCLA than he did here, but he's not going to compete with Coach K, Bill Self, and Calipari. If they give him time, I think he can be pretty successful there with the kind of athletes that target UCLA, but I don't anticipating him building a new dynasty like what the fans are craving.

If he wants to last out there, he'd better get used to the idea of proving himself their equal. No less is expected of him, and he will be dismissed promptly if he falls short.
