RE: Who Do You Miss Most of Former 'Belt Members?
Not that I think it will ever happen, but we could somehow work out a trade of Texas State for Charlotte, it wouldn't be noticeable to either conference. That trade would really tighten up the SBC's footprint and give you guys a travel cost advantage over us. Then if Ark St swapped places with ODU, I think both conferences would benefit as far as travel costs go. I'd be ok with that swap, anytime.

I don't think we will get UAB in the conference. I wouldn't want 3 teams in 1 state when the sunbelt doesn't have a team in Mississippi or Tennessee. UAB had a good year in football last year, I just don't think they will be as good next season. They had over 30 seniors last season. Say we trade Texas State, We would still have school in Texas with UTA. There's more than just football

UNT/USM
UNT/ODU
UNT/UNCC
USM/Marshall
All would be acceptable to me for additions to the Sun Belt. However, it's not up to me.
Edit: The reason they're acceptable to me is that UNT would help UL and TxSt in ticket sales and fan interest while ODU would do that for App and probably Coastal. UNCC would do as such for App and GaSt. USM and Marshall have been discussed 100 times, the positives are obvious.

UNT would help us too, we have a lot of Dallas-area alumni and we recruit that area heavily

I actually think Southern Miss or LATech would help UL much more than NT.

The question was not, "who do you want to add?", it was: " Who Do You Miss Most of Former 'Belt Members?" I think the consensus would have to be North Texas, so far.

North Texas. Even though we weren't in the belt at the same time. If you take that a step further and ask who do you want? That would be UNT and probably USM.

The Sun Belt finally has some levity. Wishful thinking has turned to realistic conversation seemingly overnight. Let’s see how the next couple years playout before leveraging any influence we may have earned with solid competition and positioning. Too much potential to be wasted at the moment. The bottom 3rd of the conference five years ago is making much of the noise today while Troy, ULL, and Ark state remain strong. How this impacts OOC play is a big question mark right now.

What will really make a difference is if our best teams stop dropping games to teams they should beat. Just imagine what would have happened if Troy hadn't lost to Liberty last year, or had App St. to Georgia Southern, or Georgia Southern to ULM. We could have had potentially 3 ranked teams at the end of the year.
Seems like this happens every year too. Our best teams winning those types of games will really raise our standing against the other 4 G5 conferences.

That's not really a fair representation though. As the folks thus far that "miss" any team are the Texas State folks (who never shared the conference with them, so really how could you miss them?), and folks that get our "pain" (mostly new folks that never shared the conference with UNT either).
At the end of the day, I think the consensus (aside from selfish folks) is that nobody is truly missed, and people are mostly content with the current lineup.

Like others, I would like to have MTSU and WKU for their hoops. The Hilltoppers, especially (we never actually shared the Belt with MT). WKU had some good posters, too (like dahbeed). I also like the idea of being associated with the other big state urban schools, even if the Florida pair don't hold a ton of appeal for me.
Overall, though, I'm pretty darn happy with the current setup of the Belt.
MTSU has the worst posters. Still banned from the CUSA boards. They didn't like a comment I made about their conference championship game attendance, and one of their moderators attacked me, then banned me for attempting to respond to his crappola. The troll who became moderator tried to say I was trolling. Oh well, I have more fun on Sun Belt boards anyways, since it's mainly positive developments here, and not the doom and gloom the CUSA boards has become.

Oh, I'm genuinely curious (and not trying to stir up sh!t here)... How would the two schools in Louisiana feel about Louisiana Tech coming back?
I know there is scuttlebutt that Tech wants no part of being in the same conference, but since I'm talking pure hypothetical, how would the fans feel about it?
EDIT: If this is gonna make it a whole battle royale, then just delete this folks. Curiosity just got me pondering.

Yah we’ll its hard to be content when one of the members is looking cross the street thinking the grass grows greener. I say for the naysayer hang in there just a little longer.

I’m pretty new to the school so obviously I don’t speak for everybody, but I think it would be a good thing. It’s an easy away game to travel to for both sides (Tech fans could get some shopping done at the mall while they’re in town too lol), and most ULM students/alumni know somebody at Tech/somebody who went to Tech, so I think it would be a fun rivalry to bring back if Tech would cooperate with us in doing so. Even if a large number of Tech fans are ********

i came across all these names when looking at former Sun Belt basketball champions. I guess for UT Arlington fans, the ones we miss are our old SLC foes, UNT and LT. We were in the WAC for a while with Denver, but not long enough to forge a rivalry. Were there some other schools formerly in the 'Belt that were never basketball champs?
Seriously, the Sun Belt should not have shown New Mexico State the door. Huge mistake, IMO. BTW, they are putting a whipping on GCU in the WAC championship game.

Seems acceptable to me. Which is why it will never happen.
I've made this point before, I have no issue with merging with CUSA. I just have an issue with AState somehow getting grouped with a league of all Western Schools 8-12 hours from Jonesboro, when there are far closer alternatives in the Eastern half of a league.
Truthfully, its probably a fair trade. Texas State and Charlotte are basketball first schools attempting to play football. AState and ODU are similar athletically, even though the Monarchs are a lot better at basketball than we are. Of course, everyone is better at basketball than we are.

New Orleans had quite a run in Belt basketball back in the 90s.
