Why No to the CIT? Isn't that a midmajor tourney?

Only because of their past and the CBI has had some trouble finding teams with winning records. CIT is totally possible, just think they'll be in the CBI

Cal St Northridge is 13-20 yikes.

1 Big 12, 1 AAC, and 1 Big East - not bad for them.

3 WAC schools

Here's partly why I think the AAC has totally passed the A10 and MWC...…

AAC 7 teams in postseason now
A10 4 teams in postseason
MWC 2 teams in postseason

All this extra practice time is huge IMO.

CIT finishes with 26 teams again. Wonder why they don't try lowering the entry fee a tad to try to get back to 32

Radford and Charleston are two higher ranked teams not in any of the tournaments. Any others?

I was under the impression that much of that $40k is used to cover the opposing teams travel costs. The problem is these games generate so little revenue that pay to play is pretty much the only way they can exist. I really wish these tournament would just fold and in their place the NIT expands to 64 teams.

RE: 2019 CBI/CIT accepts and declines
The problem these tournaments have is there's not a lot of time to sell tickets and for fans to buy them. They also happen during spring break. College students might already have plans. If you're a Kentucky student and basketball fan, you probably don't make plans, while someone from a lot of the CBI/CIT teams will.

However, these tournaments are in their infancy. The NCAA and NIT are established tournaments and one day the CBI and CIT could gain more acceptance over the years.

RE: 2019 CBI/CIT accepts and declines
The CBI, which did target quality comes with some strings attached. Apparently the Gazelle Group which runs the tournament has teams playing commit to a future exempt (regular season) tournament. Radford's coach explained he was not willing to commit to that. This may explain some of the passes the CBI received. Interesting comments.

https://www.roanoke.com/sports/colleges/...bc00a.html

A little surprising to see West Virginia and DePaul playing these (Coaching staffs must have some agenda), as the "major/power" conferences pretty much all have a NCAA or NIT only policy. A little digging, I found Louisiana Tech passed. Also WKU has an NCAA or NIT only policy. The media reported San Francisco, BYU, Fresno State, BGSU and Jacksonville State all declined both CBI and CIT invites, while UTSA (CIT) and Omaha (CBI) declined an invite from one of the tourneys.

I suspect the CBI contractual commitment may explain why ETSU and Drake are in the CIT instead of the stronger CBI.

Yes the Gazelle Group’s other tourneys might effect accepting/declining a CBI bid. This is probably the best field they’ve had in awhile. Outside of CSUN, pretty solid teams. WVU has a bad record, but still a power team

RE: 2019 CBI/CIT accepts and declines
The CBI has 3 really sketchy teams.

School (W-L vs D-I, NET)
----------------------------
CSUN (12-20, 273)
Longwood (12-17, 291)
Howard (14-16, 306)

CSUN and Longwood they took because they needed schools able to host game. Howard is just a warm body. (West Virginia has a losing record, but Big 12 conference play and a 106 NET says they have a solid shot at this, also they are hosting games.) This is a major concern even for the NIT, where Lipscomb was dropped to a 5 seed because they were not willing to host games
