Pena was great at times. In 2009, he tied Mark Teixeira for the most home runs in the AL with 39, but he didn't get any points in the MVP voting. I wonder how rare it is to lead on home runs and not get any MVP vote points.

In 2007 he hit 46 HR, 121 RBI, .627 SLG and got 64 1st place votes.
In 2008 he also got 44 votes. He finished 9th in both years.
So I don’t know why you specifically pointed out 2009, when had his best year in ‘07.

RE: Mizzou, Sox & SDSU
NU lost their annual tilt with the Red Sox 6-0 in 7 innings.
NU only had 3 hits but it’s always a thrill to face the big leaguers.

2007 was has best year statistically, but 2009 was the only time he led the league in a category and the only time he was an All-Star. I was not specifically trying to say 2009 was his best season, but I should have said more. 2007 must be one of the best non- All-Star seasons ever. Sometimes a player's statistics and what people think of him disagree about when he was best. What may have stopped him from being an All-Star in 2007 was that it was much better than he had been before. Years should be treated independently, but they're not. One unique thing was that the Yankees and Red Sox let him get away. In 2006, he played 105 games for the Yankees' AAA team in Columbus. Then he played 11 games for the Pawtucket Red Sox and 18 for the Boston Red Sox.

Northeastern sweeps in Florida
Surrounding its exhibition at JetBlue Park to open the spring for the defending World Series champions, Northeastern (4-2) earned a come-from-behind win over Missouri and swept two games against South Dakota State to complete a perfect weekend.
The Huskies improved to 4-4 in their last eight games against Southeastern Conference opponents on Thursday night, when a four-run eighth inning and two scoreless frames from Andrew Misiaszek were enough for a come-from-behind, 4-3 win over Mizzou. Junior shortstop Scott Holzwasser (Sudbury, Mass.) knocked a two-run double during the rally before the senior closer struck out four en route to his second save.
The series with South Dakota State was a different story, as the Huskies busted out the bats for 25 runs on 23 hits in 12-9 and 13-7 victories. Senior first baseman Jake Farrell (Westwood, Mass.) and redshirt freshman outfielder Corey DiLoreto (Reading, Mass.) combined for six RBI in the finale. DiLoreto, who had one of Northeastern’s three hits against the Red Sox, has reached base in all six of his collegiate appearances.
