Always a good time putting a beat down on the Hens! Degree of difficulty about to go up several notches during our road trip up north. Would be nice to at least get a split somehow next week.

MBB - Game 23 Delware (Gold Rush)
Wynter (Drexel) and maybe Horton (Delaware) are the only two freshmen who can challenge Audige for RoY.

Toewes (sp?) at UNCW might very well win it. And let's add LJ Owens into the mix, too. He's playing better every game. I think that he and Audige should never come out of a game.

Wish he would save the theatrics for the one-point games against Charleston or Northeastern and not the 19-point games against Delaware.

The guy did swing the elbow, though -- just don't act like it is worse than it is.

I don't think Nate was acting. I was in a perfect position to view this play and the DE player really wacked Nate in the jaw. The DE player may not have intended to hit Nates jaw, or to hit Nate as hard, but he intended to hit Nate somewhere. The DE player was ejected from the game after the officials reviewed the video tape and I sit just in front of the camera - so the camera saw what I saw.

A nice and respectable crowd (4,600+), but it's a shame they couldn't get a game over charter day, where we pulled 6k previously.

Actually, the replay was reshown about 3-4 times on TV. The guy caught Nate in the upper chest/collarbone area (which was what the flagrant foul was called for) with his elbow and then it shows Nate doing a heck of a job of tossing back his head to make sure the Ref knew he had been hit.

I was not surprised it was called, but was surprised it was an ejection Flagrant foul.

Just got home.
Audige played well. We are so lucky to have him. He and the kid from OV, along with Knight, are the foundation, do I dare say; to a trip to the big dance.

RE: MBB - Game 23 Delware (Gold Rush)
When we have Chase, LJ, JP, Nate, and Matt on the floor, that should (operative word) be a better offensive 5 than any other CAA team can put on the floor. If those guys are playing together, and playing well, who can guard us? 5 guys who can shoot the 3, 3 guys who can penetrate, 3 explosive dunkers, etc. I want to see those 5 get in a rhythm and have the other guys figure out their roles required for this team to roll through the rest of the CAA schedule.

Loved the performance by the juniors in the 2nd half. JP with 5 early points and some good team plays in the early going to set the tone.

Stat check ... would love for someone to find:

1) Chase’s shooting percentage on his first 3-pt attempt of a game
2) JP’s shooting percentage of the front-end of his free throws

One should be shockingly good, one shockingly bad.

The defensive effort since the 2nd half of the Drexel game has been great. Keep playing D like they are and that should keep them in games when they don't shoot well.

Some of you guys love to ask "do I dare say?" and "dare I say?" an awful lot. Our answer is always "Yes." Yes, yes you dare say and yes, what you dare say is provocative.

W&M had 47 total rebounds. College Basketball Reference only goes back to 2010-11, but it's the 4th most rebounds in that time period behind VMI 2013 and Savannah State in 2016 and 2017. It's the most they've had in a conference game over that time period.

Thoroughly enjoyed my annual trip back to Kaplan. Great crowd and great atmosphere. We were the better team today and it showed.

RE: MBB - Game 23 Delware (Gold Rush)
Wonderful afternoon at the Kap with almost 5000 Tribe fans. Some observations:

*Student turnout was terrific...spirited, loud, and supportive.

*Kudos to Mike London for coming out and leading the crowd in a Tribe cheer.
Great reception for Mike and he made lots of friends with his surprise appearance and cheerleading.

*Cheerleaders, W&M Dancers, and the W&M Pep Band never stopped all afternoon long. They had fun and so did everyone else.

*When Chase and LJ are on the court together the team has more energy.
LJ is our point guard--the way he glides across the court is something to see. Chase is getting better and better with each game: his 12 point scoring spree in the first half was Thorntonesque! He and Owens are passionate players and it reverberates to everyone else on the team.

*Top two plays: Pierce's circus flying basket stuff of a rebound & Audige's
blocking of a Delaware shot and seamlessly gaining the ball in one move
were something else.

*Nathan Knight's rebound baskets in the second half were Sports Center worthy.

*Welcome back Paul Rowley who looked like the Paul Rowley of last season.

*Pierce looked like the old Pierce again...his energy and overall play was top drawer!

*Aggressive, effective defense for almost the entire 40 minutes. Delaware
was confused and harassed all afternoon.

Team goes on the road for two tough games suddenly playing their best basketball of the season.

Quick addition to my comments:

*How could I leave out Mehkel Harvey's splendid performance? He was dynamic in his few minutes, a force on the court with his dunks and three blocked shots. Give this young man some muscles and a few extra pounds in the off season and he is a big factor in our future.

I agree that yesterday afternoon was a great time at the Kap. Kudos to all that helped put it on.

I also agree with Tony’s comments that was a good game, not a great game.

The guys have a real high ceiling and it appears that they are finally coming together and getting it.

We won yesterday against a lesser opponent missing a key player in a resounding fashion. This is the type of game that has been needed, particularly in conjunction with Thursday’s win to bolster confidence.

Now we need to take this confidence and cohesion on the road this week. Hopefully it will continue.

I’m getting used to this defense thing. The effort from the guys yesterday was outstanding. A special shout out to the energy yesterday. Along with what has already been mentioned, Milan ‘s efforts on defense, making cuts and going to the hole while not hitting from 3 were noteworthy.

No one on this team needs to be hanging their heads. They need in Tony’s words to be swaggering their way to NY & MA this week to show the conference leaders thatW&M belongs at the top of the CAA.

Nathan Knight (1269 pts) up to 19, passing Brandon Britt.

Justin Pierce (859 pts) up to 56, passing Jeff Trammell.

Matt Milon (681 pts) up to 83, passing Tom Farrington and David Cox.

Paul Rowley (442 pts) up to 122, passing Peery Lewis and Tom Andrews.

Chase Audige (242 pts) up to T-177 with Mark Boddy and Justin Jackette, passing Brian Hutt and Steve Purpura among others.

LJ Owens (186 pts) up to 194, passing Tam Stubbs, Willis Dixon, and Dick Forrest.

Mehkel Harvey (16 pts) up to T-352, passing Dave Holtzmuller, Peter Coughter, Jackie Freeman, Jay Boyd, Omar Mostafa, and Leo Brenner.

Austin Washburn (5 pts) up to T-388, passing 21 players.

THAT LAST ENTRY IS LOVELY. HOW EXCITED WAS OUR BENCH WHEN AUSTIN DRAINED THE NBA-RANGE 3? AUSTIN WAS BEAMING AFTER THAT.

RE: MBB - Game 23 Delware (Gold Rush)
I thought Milon played well yesterday. Two observations:

1). Our trap worked extremely well when Delaware brought the ball up Milon’s side. He forced the dribbler to pick up (before half court) and required a cross-court pass against Audige, exactly what we want. Later they brought it up on Owens’ side. Owens simply dropped back and the press collapsed. A freshman mistake and one that Shaver will correct in time but Milon deserves props for his defensive execution.
2). I think Milon is trying to do a “Burchfield” in that he’s trying to became a multi-dimensional player, not just a catch and shoot guy. He seems to have really bulked up. I think this has impacted his shooting but I suspect he will work through it and be a better player for the effort.

Audige, Owens, Milon, Loewe and Scott. Keep them all and we’ve really got something!
