Was there ever any doubt? B Taylor told me face to face that this kid was just the type he wanted at ODU to whip up on us.
That I amazing. I loved those old Blaine Taylor ODU teams. I mean I hated those old Blaine Taylor ODU teams but I absolutely loved the way they played.

Coach Blaine is a great guy. UCI is lucky to have him.

RE: MBB - Game 23 Delware (Gold Rush)
Nope. After the second or third time, Delaware brought Allen up to the middle so there was no longer a need for a cross court pass. It definitely worked a couple of times, and that's what you want. Even if Delaware figured out how to break it, they never get the first possessions back.

(02-03-2019 09:38 AM)tribeinexile Wrote:  1). Our trap worked extremely well when Delaware brought the ball up Milon’s side. He forced the dribbler to pick up (before half court) and required a cross-court pass against Audige, exactly what we want. Later they brought it up on Owens’ side. Owens simply dropped back and the press collapsed. A freshman mistake and one that Shaver will correct in time but Milon deserves props for his defensive execution.

MBB - Game 23 Delware (Gold Rush)
W&M's Chase Audige was named the CAA's Rookie of the Week. In wins over Drexel and Delaware, he had 34 points, 18 rebounds, seven steals, and and six assists. He shot 67% from the field and was 5-of-9 from 3.
This kid has the goods.

With those performances Chase might just as easily be Player of the Week!

I hesitate to say this so as not to put a hex on him, but Audige may just be the most complete freshman basketball player, including Marcus, Tony has ever had.

RE: MBB - Game 23 Delware (Gold Rush)
Mike London was high-fiving the players as they left the court before returning to the locker room when the game was over.

This team has so much potential ... whether they reach it is another matter.

I’m not expecting a good road trip. I would take 1-1 in a heartbeat. I think they’re capable of winning both games, but I’ve seen nothing to indicate that they can put together four good halves in a row.

I think this week is a major test. I doubt anyone goes 2-0 in that stretch this season. But, if the Tribe wants to win in March, they will have to beat at least 1 of those 2 teams to do it. Might as well prove that they can now. I am struggling to find the 4 wins we need to get to 9, but the math will become much easier if the Tribe can go at least 2-1 in the upcoming 3 road games. UNCW and W&M really put themselves in a tough spot with their current records and 5 of 7 to finish on the road.

Tribe needs to go 4-3 down the stretch to avoid the play-in round. The team I saw versus Drexel and Delaware can do this.

Well said! I was about to respond to TribePride91 with a more optimistic post but then I read yours next and it said it well. If that recent Tribe team remains then I can see 5-2 or even 6-1. If that recent team disappears then it will be a tough row to hoe.

RE: MBB - Game 23 Delware (Gold Rush)
Optimism is hard to measure. Here's one metric.

I have already bought my tourney book for this year's CAAT.

It might be said that it's easy for me since I live in Charleston. On the other hand, I lived in Richmond all my life, up to 2011, and I NEVER bought a tourney book at the Coliseum. I bought a ticket to every final we reached but not before then.

I flew up to Baltimore for that final against Delaware. That 15-minute stretch where our freshmen Prewitt and Dixon took us from 12 or so back to 5 up made me believe we have a coach and the players to do it.

Do I think we're going 0-2 this week? Yea, I do. Do I always think we're going to lose? Yep. But somehow, some day, I think we'll do it. And until (unless!) we lose in the CAAT, I still hope this is the year.

UNCW will be an underdog in 6 of their last 7. It's hard to see them getting to 8 wins, which is going to be the cutoff for the #6 seed. I think they, Elon and JMU are all getting play-in games.

Drexel and especially Towson have favorable schedules down the stretch. They both are projected to finish right around 8-10. Note that we already win any three-way tiebreaker with those two. 9 wins will probably lock up the #5 seed, but even 8 might put us in pole position for that. If Drexel outperforms us down the stretch...then that Towson game on the 28th will become crucial. Towson already has a win against NE.

We'll be favored vs. UNCW and at Elon. @Towson and @JMU are probably tossups. I'm not ready to cross off vs. Charleston yet either.

Got my CAAT tickets ordered and driving from the 'burg. If you cannot have hope then what is left in life? If you have hope, then believe in it and show up!

Ordered mine also last week. Looks like the CAA changed things up this year and are not basing their seating on where teams are ranked in the standings about two weeks before the season ends. I really felt like we drew the short straw last year with our seating. This year we already know where our seats are going to be.Seat location appears to be pretty sweet if you are lucky enough to score seats in our lower bowl premium seating section.
