Might be NIU’s highest ranking since he started tracking.

I might be biased, but I'm fully expecting Akron to contend for the 4th seed. Akron's 5 losses are by a combined 18 points, including losing to #14 Nevada by 6 and #36 Clemson by 3. I expect CMU to be another team contending for the 4 seed. Those two teams face off Tuesday and should give us a better idea of where both stand.

I agree Akron can contend for the 4th seed. Right now Id say you have a pool of Akron, Miami-OH, CMU, NIU, BGSU, Kent all in a battle for the 4 seed. Ohio, EMU, and WMU probably the only teams without a realistic shot. CMU probably the small early inside track on the 4 seed

Just how laughable is the mid major top 25 released YESTERDAY:
9. Toledo
22. Kent State
25. Ball State
If the participating coaches are not going to take it seriously, just end the poll. There is no point to it. I know the NET thing is the only meaningful thing with NCAA bids, but mid majors use these rankings for press releases to give recognition to their programs. It had some prestige until this year especially, have never seen it so bad.

I don't understand the problem, other than you left off Buffalo who is #2. And, don't fool yourself about this poll ever having any prestige. Most people don't even know it exists.

Many mid major schools will use this ranking in weekly press releases, it just has become a serious joke, and it needs to be disbanded. Ball State is getting close to being one of the top 25 best teams in the country let alone top 25 mid major.

As for the mid-major poll. It has ALWAYS been very flawed. There’s a terrible lag in results and the results being reflected in the poll. It’s obvious the coaches don’t pay attention to most of the teams. If there’s any credibility there, it stops after the top 10. Having a mid-major top 10 might be more workable. I remember a couple of years ago, a team lost two games in a mid-season week and went UP in this poll. They won two games the next week and went down. The coaches just don’t pay attention.

I dont have a national ranking system, but doesnt the eye test tell you Ball State is rapidly approaching top 40-50 status? Top 25 may have been a stretch. I dont think they are near Buffalo or a threat to Buffalo though, I just get so annoyed to see that type of horrible poll.

Then don't look at it if it causes you so much frustration. You follow mainly 1 conference. These coaches are being asked to follow about 20 while also coaching a game Saturday night. Between traveling, coaching, and family duties they have maybe an hour or 2 to sort through 100+ box scores and see how teams do before they submit their ballot Sunday evening. I feel you take these rankings too personal.
I can't speak for all fan bases, but Akron fans don't care about these rankings. They start getting excited when we start getting votes in the AP or coaches poll. I look at them because I'm in the 1% who actually enjoys watching mid-major matchups over Duke-UNC.

Well, I don’t need the eye test—they ARE a top 50 team already. NET 49 is the official NCAA ranking. Works for me.
Yeah just like 12 people in a smokey hotel room determine the college football playoff. College football really needs to bring back the BCS, these NET rankings and CF playoff committee are as corrupt as corrupt gets.

The NET ranking is just a computer ranking. It appears to be a pretty flawed one, but I fail to see how it's corrupt.
I would prefer the NCAA to settle on a method of ranking teams and ditch the committee altogether (except to determine location etc. as in hockey but NOT to determine who gets in). But the NET ranking appears to be a step in the right direction.

Tonight’s game vs WMU reminds me why it’s so difficult to run the MAC gauntlet especially on the road. UB looks disinterested. Always getting the opponents best effort in very little atmosphere. Plus sometimes you just have a bad shooting night. Credit to WMU so far, we’ll see if it holds up.
