ECU basketball...lol. You don't really believe in it. No Pirate fan would.
BUT WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR BELOVED FOOTBALL PROGRAM? Fire the wrong guy...hehe
That's the main difference between the American and the real power conferences. Other conferences don't have teams even close to as bad as ECU and Tulane.
Good teams lose to bad teams on the road in conference play all the time. Other teams outside of the American just don't have to play teams this bad. (Which is both embarrassing that UC lost to a team that bad and embarrassing to the conference that they even have teams that bad).

Twice in 15 games equals often?
I'd say going 2-2 at Minges Coliseum in ECU's 4 years in the league is "often".
It's certainly a source of embarrassment for a program that has no business losing down there.
or playing there, really
In a nutshell that's really it... historically speaking we never desired to be in a conference with East Carolina due to basketball. C-USA was formed in 1995 by a merger of the Metro and the Great Midwest, two conferences that did not have football. The original members were UC, Louisville, Memphis, DePaul, Marquette Saint Louis, USF, Tulane and UAB. The conference decided to sponsor football, which kicked off in the 1996 season. ECU was added for football only in 1997. They did not get the full conference invite until 2001-- UC announced they were leaving C-USA in 2003. Our last season in the conference was after the 2004-2005 season (actually delayed a year due to a lawsuit filed by Memphis). Therefore, we actually were only in a conference with them for a few seasons ever historically.
Obviously they were thrust upon us again due to the dismantling of the Big East and the exodus of Louisville and Rutgers from the AAC. They were originally only added for football only-- but again with the defections of the C7 schools the conference made the mistake of adding them for all sports.

According to kenpom UC is the favorite in all but two games the rest of the year (@Houston and @UCF). However, they are modest favorites in some of those games and their most likely record by that data is 12-6 in the league which would mean 5 more losses.
Yep, this one shows us favorite currently in 2 more road games.

Its too bad our guys cant seem to get up for these games, I don't thimk Gary Clark would allow us to lose a game lile this.
Everybody calm down...take a deep breath...relax.
Even though NC is having a down year, they still are loaded with 5 stars. Hold on, wait. Umm. Whaaaat??

ECU basketball has crazy potential. We are located in possibly the best state for college basketball in the entire country. We have tons of homegrown kids that we can try and keep home... guys like your beloved Gary Clark. We are in an extremely talent-rich area, and with some good coaching and good recruiting, we can finally have a program we can be proud of. ECU basketball has been HORRIBLY undervalued by previous administrations and it really is a crime how terribly it has been mismanaged until now.
The point is, we have hired the right guy. Joe Dooley is the only coach to ever win at ECU. Our last NCAA Tournament appearance was with Joe Dooley as head coach. Pirate fans are DESPERATE for a good basketball program, and we truly believe that Joe Dooley is the guy to get us to where we want to be.
As for football... yeah, we fired Ruffin McNeill and endured 3 miserable seasons with an absolute hack running the program. However, it's very likely that Ruffin wouldn't have done much better than Coach Mo, considering it was the vast majority of Ruff's players that started the 3-9, 3-9, 3-9 nightmare.
Just like in basketball, ECU has hired the right guy in Mike Houston. The guy is a flat-out winner and is going to make ECU football relevant and respected again. So, don't worry about us... we're going to be just fine. Starting to sound like you may be in the market for a head basketball coach and Fickell may get poached after next year. So, I wouldn't be too cocky just yet.

I'd rather play at Davidson College than ECU
Right now Davidson is a better program with vastly more tradition and history. Not to mention it is one of the best schools in the region. Plus they have the Steph-factor going for them. I like to think in a few years, once Dooley has his guys in place, that ECU will be a much better option than Davidson.

And their location is pretty friggin sweet too. Great college town IMO, and the perfect distance from a big city to get that feel too.

Good news is that UC rarely loses two in a row.

My favorite game attended in person was against Southern Miss in Huggins second year. Southern Miss and Weatherspoon were ranked #11, and ESPN was doing the game (with Dick Vitale, I believe).
The Shoe was rocking. The team was hot and pulled the 86-72 upset. Really their last good game before injuries devastated the team.
But while the arena was at its highest fever pitch, the pep band broke out the old favorite (BA - BA - BA - BAAABA). And the entire crown in unison screamed out - LOUISVILLE SUCKS!
