lol does the MWC ever have more than 2 or 3 teams on any regular basis?
Two bids in 2014. Three in 2015. One bid in 2016 and 2017. Two in 2018.
2019 - one or two
They had 5 in 2012 or 13. MW should get 2 this year, PAC might not get more than 2 this. WCC will get the most in West as things stand now.

Yep. That's been the tendency of the MWC since its birth in 1999. For the first 14 years it was mostly a 2-3 bid league with a couple years of 4 bids and one with 5 (2013).
Interestingly enough, the decline in MWC at-larges started right after Boise and SDSU chose to stay put instead of splitting their sports between the AAC (football) and Big West (basketball). One consequence of their flirtation with the AAC / BW was that the MWC added Utah State and San Jose State as a precautionary move. While the former school has finally snapped out of their funk, the latter has been one of the worst programs in D1, complete deadweight which hasn't helped the MWC cause.
If Nevada wins the regular season crown and conference tournament, I think the MW will be a one-bid league again for the third time in four years.

RE: Is American basketball better than Pac 12?
Another side effect of Boise's and SDSU's decision was that it opened the door for UC San Diego to move up to Division 1 in 2020. While they won't be competing h2h with SDSU for basketball recruits, they should be able to hold their own vs the bottom half of the MWC after they complete their transition.

so the fact Jjoey acted like 'only' getting 2-3 bids was a down year for the MWC shows intellectual dishonesty on his part. Either that or he's an idiot. Maybe its both?

Yeah, and not only that but MWC taking Utah State and San Jose State while it killed off WAC football, it forced the WAC to get some new teams. Utah Valley and Grand Canyon are doing pretty darn well for themselves, and even new member Cal Baptist isn't doing too poorly in year 1 of their transition.... If the WAC didn't have Chicago State right now, they'd be ahead of the MWC.

San Jose is a total train wreck, Utah State is improved this year and Fresno is pretty good. UNM, UNLV and SDSU are all down this year. So probably 2 at most this year, barring some upsurges on the part of some of the underachievers. The PAC is down this year and will probably get only 2 bids, WCC looks the strongest presently. WAC looks pretty good, but will still only be a single bid. Just a note, USU has lost to UH and Nevada. UH is very good, but Nevada is a monster and could be final 4 material.

@johncanzanobft
The Pac-12 Conference has hired one of the country’s top PR and crisis management firms.
The aim?
To repair and protect its brand.

RE: Is American basketball better than Pac 12?
SDSU successfully erased a 19 point lead vs Xavier in Maui and at home vs Cal State Northridge. They also fell to Brown by 21 at home and on the road at Cal. Very Jekyll and Hyde. They're talented enough to take down Fresno and USU, which would hurt those two teams in their at-large push.

I'm sure this is about possible realignment in 2024 / 2025 - at least in part.

I just saw that the AAC has passed the Pac 12 in conference RPI for #6.
It'll be interesting to see if ECU's win today over Cincy helps the AAC in the NET race- as I think you could see ECU's jump be greater than Cincy's fall.

will be interesting to see the impact of the drastically higher winning percentages as we get into league play...
OOC winning percentages:
AAC 107-42 .718
P12 90-58 .608
so every league game the AAC will be adding into the SOS category .110. That's gigantic. You would think eventually that will add up.
Difference down to 4.92 as of 1/7...
AAC - 108.50
PAC - 103.58

I actually see it closer- thru 1/5(Saturday). Sunday's action not there yet...
P12- 103.50
AAC- 107.08
so a difference of 3.58 now.
Big part was the ECU/Cincy game
ECU +29 while Cincy was only -8

Lunardi currently has 3 in with Temple in the next 4 out.
Thx. UCF is next four out. I really wish our conference in Basketball gets more respect. We are a power league
btw can I ask you how to give "reputation" to other posters?

9 newcomers. Only returning 11% of minutes played last year. Losing Shamet AND Reaves after the end of last year plus Lomax decommitting left us without a true PG. That was our #1, #2 and #3 option coming into the year.

Are these new comers any good? Is Wichita going to be a force in the next couple years?
I think the reason American added Wichita was because Wichita was a power in Basketball.
