RE: Official - New Football Head Coach Search
We need a head coach that has had experience and success as a HEAD coach. It's not the same as being a coordinator. A good coordinator doesn't mean he will be a good head coach. We shouldn't be a learning experience for a new head coach. We need a guy that knows how to do it and how to win. Period.

Someone already brought this up but Cignetti ran a completely different defense. With the talent coming back and a full year under their belt its not a great idea to switch it up

With the LBs we have and the ones coming in, we need to adjust to the personnel. Every defense works if you have the right players, and we have way too many LBs right now for only two to be playing and the rest on the bench.

What’s stopping y’all from moving up? Y’all should team up with Liberty and make a joint bid to the Sun Belt so they can have divisons.

We had a sun belt invite and turned it down. It was the right decision too. Not a fit for our institution and we don’t need to send the tennis team to Texas.

That of course would necessitate a different QB. Under Houston we seemed to skew further and further each season culminating into this year's Achilles' heal.

If Trott doesn't stay as DC we need Trott Jr. HC/OC we need someone in the Drew Mehringer (Urban Meyer offensive coaching tree) mold.

Trott plus an OSU style offense would be great.
Best of the past two systems.
Problem with that style of offense is it puts the defense on the field 35-40 min a game. Tremendous strain on the defense, esp if you’re not solid 2 deep across the board. You score more, but so does the other team.

That's not necessarily true. You're assuming a fixed number of series. If our defense continues to dominate the other teams would have lots of 3 and outs. We could have even times of possession with a strong defense. But true, against a grind it out run offense we have problems stopping it could pose a challenge. But I prefer scoring at will and keeping the opposing D on their heals.

Thanks, hopefully you have VT on the schedule soon. I, along with every good Duke, cheers like hell for the Pirates when they play the Hokies. I'll be even more invested now. Seeing a MH coached ECU team beat the Hokies will be fantastic. Best of luck.

Did you also see how he out-coached the **** out of Mike Houston in our game this year? It was a little sad really.
Indeed, he did. Cignetti would be my first choice also.

Mike's brother, Dan Hunt, has been mentioned. I don't like that guy. The joy on his face yesterday after beating us didn't look like he was happy to continue in the playoffs. It looked more like hatred for JMU. Plus, many of his players were pure douchenozzles on the field, something that typically comes from the top.

Yet y’all would want to join the AAC...where you would have to send your tennis team to Texas. Y’all would be a transition team, take when it given to you and then take names and kick ass and you’ll be able to move to a better fit. The only conference that isn’t far flung at this point is the MAC.

I wonder if Houston has recommended a successor. If so, I would think that it would be Kirkpatrick, or maybe not if MH plans to take him to ECU.

I think DK may have cost us a couple of games this season. Not keen on him at HC. Would love to keep Trott, though.

Trott came to JMU becuse of MH, not JMU. Plus I think his comfort is DC, not HC.

I'm not suggesting Trott as HC, but rather DC. He's done a fine job.

My choice for HC is Cignetti. I don't even have a second choice.

In the running at Utah State. Might be their #1. He is a Utah Guy if you catch my drift.

He isn’t pulling a Bronco for an FCS job.

Great coach. Would love to have him. Not happening.

Beyond that, East coast recruiting could be a challenge. Would minimally need to connect with some new assistants here.

Cignetti is not realistic given his current salary and the rest seem to be retreads. The one interesting guy, and a guy I had thought of, is Drew Mehringer. He's only 30, but I was impressed by him during his brief stint under Withers (by his offenses, his intellect and his composure). The Rams at the NFL level hired a coordinator in his early 30s and that's worked out pretty well.

He already got paid as a G5 coach as FCS.

With his extras and foundation money, he was low end g5. If we moved up his contract stated he would be paid at middle of conference which would have taken his contract (not including extras) to the 750K level for C-usa as an example.
