That's an extremely bold prediction, entirely out of touch with reality, but bold nonetheless.

It's a bold strategy, Cotton, but seems to be going against the thread terms.

On the original, still think Oklahoma. If you prefer going into the obvious ... OU reversed thei only blot on their record, OSU again left what should have been a weaker opponent hang around until deep into the 3rd quarter.

If you prefer network conspiracy theories, they reward the Big 12 for creating more content with the CCG.

We'll see soon enough whether they belong in the mix.

What are your thoughts.

By the way since it is my thread this one shall not be a gripe and moan session over UCF.

That said, I am curious if the committee might not desire to choose between Ohio State and Oklahoma in which case UCF might be the way for Solomon to divide the baby. I don't see the committee risking the ire of 3 P conferences by putting a 2 loss Georgia in, but they might avoid a controversy by putting in UCF.

Personally, Ohio State I think will jump Oklahoma. But now for your thoughts.

There are a lot more folks in Ohio (and B1G fans in general) than there are in Oklahoma (Big 12).
My money is on Ohio State.
The decision has little to do with football and everything to do with money.

Playoff needs to be 8 teams
This year:
Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Georgia, UCF, and Michigan.
All 8 of those schools deserve a shot at the national championship this year.

Whole lot more people in Texas than either, and those people are a lot more familiar with OU than the Northerners OSU.

And lots of people in Ohio will religiously watch the Buckeyes in the Rose Bowl, so it's not like they are lost.

What I would really like to see:

#1 Alabama vs #4 UCF (Orange)
#2 Clemson vs #3 Notre Dame (Cotton)
#5 Oklahoma vs #6 Georgia (Sugar)
#7 Ohio State vs #10 Washington (Rose)
#8 Michigan vs #11 LSU (Peach)
#9 Florida vs #12 Penn State (Fiesta)

RE: I Think There Will Only Be One Operative Question About This Year's CFP After Tonight
I could see the argument for Ohio State jumping Notre Dame. They both had 12 wins with Ohio State being a conference champion. Between the two common opponents, Ohio State outscored Michigan and Northwestern by more than Notre Dame. Oklahoma avenged their earlier loss, and Notre Dame's schedule was softer due to the previously mentioned down opponents. It will probably be Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, but I could see the argument for Ohio State instead of Notre Dame.

Georgia with two losses and no conference championship is definitely out.

I hate to see the committee pass up the rare opportunity to put four unbeaten teams in the playoff. How often is this likely to happen?

Also, will this be the year that the #1 seed finally wins the championship?

Oklahoma and Clemson both won incredibly weak conferences. Clemson managed to do it unblemished but Oklahoma didn't. Ohio St is more deserving of the last spot for winning a better conference despite the loss. Texas hung with Oklahoma until very late in the 4th quarter until a lat TD iced it. Ohio St won their title by 3 TDs.

There will be a reckoning from Jim Delany if you slight his conference two years in a row.

If Milton isn’t hurt, then I think it is at least discussed but I expect Central Florida to finish at #6. Between you and me, I hope #1 doesn’t win!

Didn’t look like it losing by 20 to LSU before they lost a second time to Bama. Lost twice, no way.

I think Milton being hurt ironically helps UCF's chances. It gave them a chance to demonstrate that they weren't just being carried on the back of a transcendent star QB. They showed they won as a team. They also showed again that they can finish. A hallmark of a good team is the ability to wear down opponents through superior depth. UCF has shown that - to me at least.

They probably won't get in. But people will be talking about them. That's a start.

RE: I Think There Will Only Be One About This Year's CFP After Tonight
The problem with Georgia is they just lost a “neutral site” game to a playoff team. They had their chance. Give Oklahoma a chance. Ohio State’s blowout loss cost them. UCF should be given the opportunity to play Georgia in the Sugar Bowl or Ohio State somewhere. Otherwise, they’ll beat a marginal team like Michigan and claim another title. 04-wine

Agree, OS shouldn't even be in the conversation. they not only lost to Purdue, but were dominated by Purdue. Olk beat the team they lost to in champ game. Ga with 2 losses shouldn't be in the mix either..

So difficult that one of its divisions was won by a team that lost all of its non-conference games, which were all played at home, including a loss to an Akron team that was 2-6 in MAC games and a loss to a Duke team that was 3-5 in ACC games.

Sure, if the committee loves Ohio State enough to throw out a few BS reasons why they should jump Oklahoma, they'll do whatever they want, the committee's track record proves that they're just making it up week to week anyway.

They haven't been forced to defend their nonsensical changes much this year. Or maybe the chair just doesn't think the public is as stupid as some past chairs did. But its obvious there is no rhyme or reason. Its primarily based on an eyeball test.
