That's almost certainly not happening, given this week's CFP rankings.

Just curious, because I genuinely don't know -- is VPI meant to be a pejorative term, since they prefer VT?

VPI - Virginia Polytechnic Institute.

I know that it stands for the official name of the university, but I was just curious if calling it by the older term VPI instead of the newer VT, which the school seems to prefer, is meant to tweak the bums of VT fans.

Apparently based on other answers they don't like VPI. Didn't know that. I don't follow ACC spats so news to me.

First, this would require UCF to beat Memphis (otherwise, the AAC uses all of their bowl bids).

Second, I would be really surprised if the AAC would abandon going to the Gasparilla Bowl against an ACC opponent in order to go to Boca Raton vs. a CUSA or the Cure Bowl against the Sun Belt runner up.

Another way for the AAC not to fill all primary bowls would be secondary ties.
Quote:Representatives from the Independence Bowl have attended the last two Memphis games, and bowl chairman Trey Giglio confirmed that Memphis is one of the teams they are considering.
“They’re a team that’s certainly on the upswing here in the latter part of the season,” Giglio said. “They are fairly regional to us with a four- to five-hour drive to Shreveport and they’re going to a championship game in their conference.”

The Ferry ain't exactly cheap.

Silver Airways flies from FL to the Bahamas too...if you have lots of money and time

Ferry is to Freeport on Grand Bahama Island. They will be very disappointed considering that is the wrong island.

Minor details COGS

A VT/UM matchup in the Military bowl would be interesting should they get by Marshall on Sat. There are multiple possibilities out there for AAC bowl teams and contracted bowl ties beyond what happens in the NY6.

ETA:I guess the Military bowl agrees. lol

These last two weeks I had totally spaced on Frisco being what used to be the Miami Bowl before ESPN bought it from the AAC.

That is a MAC bowl this year, SBC next year.

Don't believe every bowl prediction list, some of the writers don't go to the conference official sites to find their bowl affiliation lists.

Luckily crazy Bowl Speculation season is almost over, and speculation on who will win which bowl game season will be able to commence.

I know the Military Bowl lists the AAC CCG as a "game to watch" but since moving to the Navy stadium a few years ago, that game has featured teams from a pretty tight window. Memphis is far away compared to the teams that have been featured, so i bet they are a "last resort" option for the AAC with that bowl. So expect someone like Temple to rep the AAC in that game.

As an aside, I'm irked by the New Year's Even date for this bowl. I visit family in Annapolis for Christmas, and have attended the last three Military Bowls, which have been played around 12/28 and they have been great fun. But NYE would ruin family plans so it's a no-go this year.

Agree on Memphis. If I had to hazard a guess, it’d be either B’ham or Indy. Prolly vs. ACC wherever assigned.

IIRC, the appelation "VPI" played a part in creating the nickname "Hokies". To rhyme with VPI in a new school fight song, "hokie" was a made up word in the opening line "Hokie, hokie, hokie aye, we are the boys from VPI". To be honest, this may just be an apocryphal story that I read somewhere. But it sounds authentic to me - most of the fight songs from that era were pretty hokey (not to mention politically incorrect).

FWIW, I hope Memphis gets the Military Bowl, for your fans. I know it's not easy driving distance like the places you mention, but bowls are about getting *out* of your area and experiencing another destination. The DC area is a great place to be around Christmas and New Year's, IMO much more entertaining than being shuffled off to another cotton belt dump bowl like Birmingham or Shreveport.

The AAC runner-up deserves better than that, either DC or a bowl in Florida.
