La Salle
We hit the road against the Explorers who have become the new St Joes who we play home and home every other year. La Salle is coming into the game at 0-3 with close losses @Temple, home against Lafayette and a double digit loss @Florida. They are playing tough games and staying close. Coming off a game that was easier than a practice this one will challenge us.

La Salle is favored by 11. I think we keep it closer than that.

Drexel- 66
La Salle- 75

RE: La Salle
This team lost at home to Lafayette so it is not like we can't beat them as well. Generally I think it is a better match-up for us than Rutgers and Eastern Michigan were. We beat them last year with two guards active, I think we beat them again this year.

I just set up my free trial of ESPN+to watch the game. It's past 4:00 and the event still hasn't started yet. This is probably the only time that I'll need it this year since CAA games are all free. Most likely, I'll be cancelling the subscription after the game.

35-29 Drexel at halftime. I like what I've seen so far, but they had a lot of easy missed layups and a bunch of missed free throws. They blew many opportunities to grow the lead even more. Hopefully they can keep up the momentum in the 2nd half.

Drexel built up a nice lead early in the 2nd half, but LaSalle pouring in a barrage of 3's. Seems like they're trading their 3's for Drexel's 2's. Game now tied at 57 with about 8 minutes left.

We're down to the wire. At the under 4 timeout. Drexel clinging to a 72-67 lead.

RE: La Salle
You won 89-84. You made 34 out of 40 free throws. You made 10 out of 13 in the first half, so that's not "a bunch of missed free throws." You made 21 out of 23 in the last 10 minutes. You were led by Harper with 24 and Demir with 21. Harper made 14 out of 16 free throws. The CAA record for free throws made by a player is 21, and last season's CAA-high was 16. All 6 of your players who attempted free throws made at least 2 and made at least 75%. To compare that to the 76ers, they had at least 34 made, at least 85% made, at least 6 players who made at least 2, and had every player make at least 75% 14 days ago, but the previous time when they did all of those was 744 games before that. Demir had half of your 10 assists, and his 5 assists tied his career-high. ESPN calls him a junior, but doesn't have any statistics for him before last season. La Salle shot well, but it's hard to win when you make 25 fewer free throws. They made 9 out of 12 free throws.

RE: La Salle
Demir was a transfer from Central Wyoming (a juco) which is why you don't see any stats for him as a freshman.

Nice win for the Dragons. I thought we did a good job of taking what they were giving us. The threes weren't falling, but we abused them inside and got to the line. LaSalle did not look particularly good to me and I think they will struggle this year, but still encouraging to see us win with room for improvement evident as well. They do have some nice young players though, so it would seem like eventually Ashley will get them back on track.

Thanks Evan for the analysis. It was a very impressive win today. La Salle was all about the outside shot today, making 11 of 24 3-pointers. Drexel focused on the inside game, as La Salle couldn't stop Dehmir. Drexel got to the line quite a bit and really took advantage with very impressive free throw shooting. They made just 26 FG's today but made 34 FT's.

This is now the 3rd time in 4 years that Drexel has beaten La Salle, and all 3 wins were at Tom Gola Arena.

Excellent win. Glad to hear we actually played attacking basketball and got rewarded for it. With our lack of size that type of game will be tough to come by. Keep the momentum going. Any road win is a good win.

I don't think we are that small. When you look at the schedule ahead I think LaSalle's size is probably more representative of what we will face compared to EMU and Rutgers. The elite big guys in the CAA (Cacok, Knight, Brantley, Carter) might give us trouble with their athleticism, but it is not like they are going to keep teams from driving the lane.

RE: La Salle
Demir is essentially our center at 6'6" everyone. Butler is 6'8", everyone else that plays as "bigs" are 6'6 or shorter. That is giving up quite a bit of height especially when you dont have depth behind them nor are any of those particularly athletic against stretch forward type of players

According to the roster FWIW, Demir is listed at 6'9", Tadas is 6'10", Doles is 6'9", Perry (who hopefully will earn more playing time) is 6'10".

These heights do not suggest that we're that much undersized compared to the average mid-major roster. Even if guys were standing on their tippy toes when they got measured, I'm sure that their opponents' roster heights are exaggerated as well.
