When he complained about Cumberland's 2 fouls preventing him from playing in the first half I wanted to punch my windshield

Really?

If we fail to make the NCAA tournament this year, will you start a haiku thread? I've got a few ready.

Will only get through part of the thread tonight, but I had to stop here:
There is NO WAY Mick cuts Jennifer's minutes (or Brooks for that matter). He just doesn't like to change lineups.

Cronin has coached 2 straight 30 wins seasons and we know this season will be rough early as guys get more playing time and learn to play together. I stopped reading this board because I was hoping to discuss how players are doing or have improved. Instead I just see a bunch of guys calling to fire a coach who has had back-to-back 30 win seasons.

Brooks had a good game, him and Scott combined for 15 points. Scott hit a 3 and looked comfortable doing so. The front court was not the problem for us. The problem was the back court. Cumberland was excellent once he started getting it going in the 2nd half. But the rest of the team combined for just 19 points. Cumberland outscored everyone but Brooks and Scott combined. And Cumberland didn't score a point in the first half. We need way more scoring from somebody. Broome had 5 points on 1-10 shooting, that is terrible.

As they get used to playing together the passing and ball movement should improve. Saw that more in the 2nd half as we had several times where a guard drives then finds Brooks/Scott for the dunk or easy lay-in.

Moore/Williams and Fredericks all were non-factors on offense. One of them needs to step up. Johnson played well and looks like he will quickly be getting playing time.

We play a number of easy games now. That should help with player and team development. I watched a team that is rough, but that also has a lot of potential. I think by conference play we will be a much better team then we saw tonight (especially in the first half).

Negativity or an observation? Back to back 30 win seasons by beating a lot of bad teams. Mick is all smoke and mirrors. I only saw one D1 player on the court tonight, Cumberland. Of course, Mick benched him for an entire quarter. Mick doesn’t understand offense is a huge part of the game.

You do bring up a good point. Lots of cupcakes on the horizon so Mick can make it appear they are decent. This program has been Micked.

Big concern is that Fredericks, Williams, Beoome and Moore don’t look ready to be consistent players at this level. That is two years of wing players that are not helping. I am concerned with this than the front court. Can’t play small of that group can’t hit shots. Fredricks look really bad yesterday but that was his first game at this level. Broome once again was a huge disappointment.

Moore's shot continues to be a huge disappointment. UC makes a great run late, forces a turnover then Moore misses an absolute wide open three in transition that would cut the game to 3 with a minute to go. UC got the offensive rebound and Cumberland doesn't get a touch. Instead we get Jenifer trying to score over a big defender at the rim.

Bench went 2-16 and 0-8 from 3 point range...we aren't going to beat many half decent teams with that kind of a performance.

Broome isn't a shooter. He needs to be able to penetrate, but we have no players to stretch the floor. Broome and Cumberland both struggled a great deal attempting to penetrate because teams know if you stop them we can't score.

It's going to be a long, difficult season for both of them. Cumberland is being asked to be SK. SK was special.

Cumberland had 22 in the second half after his coach crazily sat him the entire first half. He may very well be special.

could be, but he definitely has some things to clean up. SK played me vs the world and did it with a 119.7 ORtg. Thats nuts.

Cumberland's efficiency is obviously key to this season. He's the only hope right now.

I think he's too hot-headed and a bit whiny for my taste. He's lucky that OSU tech last night wasn't a double T. The both of them were jawing at each other before/after Cumberland made his three. In fact, Mick's first reaction was that they called a T on Cumberland, too. I thought the same.

Here's to hoping he matures this season.

RE: UC vs OSU Game Thread
An Elite Eight last spring and much about last night would be forgiven under the well worn excuse: rebuilding. Much, but not all.

It was his responsibility as a long tenured coach to have "ready now" guys to replace at least one or two of those missing starters. Washington, Clark and Evans could all score inside and outside. That's not a criticism of the front court players we have; it's on the coach to recruit guys with the skill sets necessary to win in high major basketball. If the guards really start scoring, it will at least partially offset this deficiency. And in the American, that may be enough to contend this season. Personally, I'd like to see a lot more minutes from Logan who appears to have a much higher ceiling than two of our current starting guards.

Think there were two, think Johnson is going to be really good, if he doesn't transfer.

Think this is the year that MC's inability to recruit pure shooters over athletic ability is finally going to come back and bite him in the ass.
