RE: 2018-2019 College Hoops Thread
In the AAC board there's a thread discussing whether the AAC is better this year than the PAC12..
It kind of relates to that and conference realignment and I don't know where best to put it but I ran a little analysis of a mythical made up conference (which I hope happens if an outright invite doesn't come from the big 12 or ACC) of leftovers from the current big12 and best options from the current AAC including:
Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, TCU, Texas Tech, WVU, Cincinnati, UCF, USF, Memphis, and Houston
The average NET ranking of:
current pac12 is 106.08
current aac is 106.08
hypothetical aac/big12 hybrid is 41.75
I don't really care if this doesn't spur discussion, you can argue this would never happen, team exlusion/inclusion, NET ranking is impacted by conference affiliation, etc. etc.
I just found it interesting how much better off we'd be getting out of the godforsaken American Conference. Similar to the old Big East we wouldn't have to worry about OOC scheduling strength, we'd have much more exciting home games.
A man can dream.

Watching Miss St vs. UK. Miss St. can’t hit a 3 to save their life. 1/14 from beyond the arc. Couldn’t miss against us...

tougher to make 3s on the road especially at a venue like Rupp.
not surprised they made more at home at the Hump.

just a coupla observations from observing the scores, ole miss getting worked over and texas tech has fallen on hard times. i don't think i'll ever want anything but unfortunate things to happen to them. didn't tulsa beat k-st? at this point in the season we need the teams that are winning to continue to win. can't be muddying up the bubble now can we? i'm looking at you cane broome

the state of indiana's legacy programs, nd and iu has upon it a hex. for some reason, they just haven't made the right hire. brian kelly is the ultimate fit and he can't even do it

It does seem like everytime we beat someone they take awhile to recuperate.
But you're probably being sarcastic, so whatever.

No I actually think there’s something to that. I think teams get so up, emotionally, for us that it’s hard to recuperate.

A few lower tier teams that we played in OOC are having solid seasons thus far...
NC Central is 9-10 overall and 4-1 MEAC.
George Mason is 11-8 overall and 5-1 A10.
UNLV is 10-7 overall and 4-1 MW. FWIW, they host NahVatta on the 29th.
Northern Kentucky is 16-4 overall and 6-1 Horizon.

I find we always just focus on the wrong teams. Ole Miss loses and suddenly it seams like we no longer have a solid win. Wichita State gets smacked and that road win doesn't matter. But we ignore teams like NC Central playing well, or even a team like Tulsa or USF being decent, that it seems like the whole season has gone out the door.

The problem is those teams are still likely column 3 wins at best. UC needs Xavier or UCLA in column two.

I understand from a colleague who is an IU fan that they've been devastated by injuries to multiple players. I think Miller will prove to be a good coach but it's just not the same team personnel wise that rose in the rankings pre-conference.
Let's hope Cumberland can stay healthy. He's outstanding--the straw that stirs the drink for UC. Without him, this team would struggle to score just as Wichita did last night in Tampa in an ugly loss.

Who on here would switch places with "blue blood" Indiana this season?
12-7. Lost five straight. Next game is against Michigan. Two main players suspended.
Is Archie Miller a coach or is he Tom Crean 2.0? Once Langford and Morgan split after this season, what have they got?
But they have all those nice banners...

I know we expected Wichita to be down but did we expect them to be this down (11th place) ?
Yes they lost practically their whole team , but people thought Marshall and his coaching prowess would have them middle of the league. Instead hes looking flustered and out of control .
I think part is that the bottom and middle of this league is much improved and he isnt coaching in the Missouri Valley anymore.

I didn't expect them to be this down, but I think that's a good point about the strength of the middle of the league. Young, inexperienced team, falling victim to no off nights. I have a ton of faith in Marshall to get them back to a top 25 type team, but this year they are in trouble.

If we were to lose Cumberland we become a sub .500 team. Just the reality of things. That absolutely cannot happen.

Great points. Honestly the league all around has improved and there is no easy game, outside of Tulane it seems. ECU would probably have better number if their best player wasn't suspended for the first half of the non-conference and then spending a few games figuring it out. They will have some other scalps at home. Wichita State should bounce back as the schedule gets easier and they will still be tough to beat at home. But they still probably wind up in the bottom third of the league (And I can see bottom 3). USF is no joke and I expected them to beat down WSU and I'm glad we don't have to travel there (Even though the crowd isn't much, still a tough road game).

I think Archie may be dealing with blending Crean's players with his own recruits and the cultural change he's trying to implement from the Crean years. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he'll recruit well and turn it around.
With that said, the Hoosiers are no longer the lead dog in the Big Ten and may never be again. IU has been eclipsed by MSU's incredible success for two decades and now Michigan and OSU have excellent coaches in place who could dominate the conference for a long time to come. I'm no fan of the conference or its teams but the B10 may be the best basketball conference in America--this season, projected to earn 10 bids to March Madness.
