"only competitive game on the schedule". No. He's just being Dukeman. He always cherry picks in his responses in order to push his narratives.

As it was in 2012, JMU could not match up with WVU’s offensive personnel and got smoked. Plus the offense was being led by the infamous underachieving Justin Thorpe.
The result 42-12 final
Yeah, in terms of NFL offensive firepower, the best JMU has faced:
2016 UNC:
2017 draft: Mitch Trubisky (2nd pick), 2 WR in 4th rd, RB in 5th Rd, RB in 7th Rd
2018 draft: WR in 7th Rd

2012 WVU:
2013 draft: Tavon Austin (8th pick), Geno Smith (2nd rd), WR Stedman Bailey (3rd Rd)
2014 draft: RB Charles Sims (3rd Rd)

You've got to be kidding me, we've got to endure this again next season?

He conveniently left out the UTC series. UTC is 3-0 right now.

Exactly, wonder why he left out the UTC --- did not fit the narrative. St Francis just took Richmond to the brink and the NEC winner gets a playoff bid, so could be a playoff team. I would drop all MEAC teams since the MEAC opts out of the playoffs.

The purpose of JMU's OOC scheduling is for success and home games in December. JMU plays plenty of ranked teams year in /year out in the CAA. Also these OOC games allow the coaching staff to work kinks out in game situations and evaluate talent in game situations.

One could argue that playing Furman, El Cid, Wofford, Laffeyett, and Lehigh accomplish all you state as our purpose. The thing you don't seem to care about is the reputation and desire of our coaches, players, and fans. We win against the teams I mention by 20 rather than 52 - 0 at the half. Your use of "working the kinks out" against NSU, RMU, and xyz (little to no scholly teams) is almost laughable. It's nearly impossible to keep the first team focused beyond the first quarter and those are the guys who we need to count on in December. 2016 we dam∆ near gave a game away to UNH because the first team was playing grabass over on the bench during the third quarter. I watched Trott chew some a$$ trying to get his defense to focus. This attitude happens when too many games are lopsided. As I've mentioned many times we have a minimum of three conference games every season where the outcome is determined after 15 minutes of competition. How much easier do you want?

Again, StFU lost @ Lehigh by 2, destroyed DSU, and took RU to the wire. StFU is = to Lehigh, and way better than Lafayette. Heck, Morgan St is probably better than Laughayette.
Lafayette is terrible:
L @ Sacred Heart 35-6
L @ UD 37-0
L Monmouth 24-20

Yet you're not likely going to get Lehigh or Lafayette or any of those others you mentioned to do a 1 and 1. So if doing a I-A game and doing a 1 and 1 with one of those you mentioned (or any other) = only 5 home games every other 11 game season. Notice you NEVER see NDSU or Montana play only 5 home games. So why should JMU?

Totally agree. We need to get big FBS schools to come to us! ODU has VT at home and look how excited they are! Their tickets are literally catching on fire due to the excitement!!
It has paid off so much for them and we can only wish to be in the position that they are in right now.

So you're saying JMU going to FBS would turn us into ODU? Same old blathering about JMU turning to sh!t because "look at ODU."

I'd take Tech at a completed BFS over 3 more FCS championships.

Unless ODU rollsover and dies which I doubt happens ODU has an opportunity to get better and follow their vision for ODU athletics. Things change. ODU may take down a P5 in norfolk in the near future while jmu is houstonless and playing robert morris and morgan state.

WVU only returns 5 starters on offense and their 3 best offensive players graduate. WVU will return 6 starters on defense but remember that Rashad Robinson will return for JMU as well.

There was an article in the Pilot the other day about how ODU is in a bad spot and it might get worse. From an ODU alum.

Also I love that you guys assume we'll be world beaters at the next level but say we'll be Houstonless and point out our worst opponents currently. Go over to the ODU boards and see how many of their fans are begging for regional rivals like us, W&M and Richmond again.

We have it great and our weaker OOC scheduling allows us to host multiple rounds of the playoffs in December. Why would we risk that so the home schedule could look a little better? Come off it.

Lehigh just did a home-and-home with us. UT Chatty is doing one with us now. Delaware is in the middle of one with NDSU. JB told me himself that getting home-and-home deals is not the problem, getting 6 home games is, thus the reason for so many 52 - 0 halftime scores.

BDK, you and I have always had different agendas on 5 vs 6 games. For me, having 5 is a non-issue as long as we're bringing better competition to BFS. The commitment is too great for me to watch us beat-up RMU. It's simply not a fair fight. The wife heads over to the bookstore after the MRD'S perform and the daughter can't stay engaged when we're up 30 points. Frankly, about 5 weekends over 12 weeks is all I can spare anyway.

IMHO, having 6 game seasons about 67% of the time and 5 game seasons about 33% of the years (when you add the 12 game seasons as a guarantee of 6 games, this should be a close ratio) is all the home games I can manage (I usually get to one away game). When we make the playoffs, I do what I can.

I mistyped. What I meant was you're not likely to get any of those you mentioned to do a "one and done". Of course they'll do a 1 for 1- a great deal for them, not so good for JMU.
Correct JMU had the 2014/2015 1 and 1 with Lehigh, and FWIW UD just finished a 1 and 1 with Laughayette.

Right now StFU doesn't have the same name recognition, but on the field they are about about the same level as Lehigh. But StFU will do a one and done with JMU (or a 2 and done), and apparently Lehigh won't (for whatever JMU has offered)..

That 52-0 was a JMU record for points scored in a half- its only happened once.

Here's the solution- for some of those programs you mentioned, pony up more $$ and get them to do a 2 for 1 (2 games at JMU, one return game at their place). Have the return game in the 12 game seasons, so JMU could maintain 6 home every season. Yeah, that would mean ponying up more $$, but JMU would be making more $$ on those seasons where had 6 home games instead of 5.

FWIW 12 game seasons seems to be a little less than 1/3 of seasons:
2002, 2003, 2008 (JMU only played 11)
2013, 2014, 2019..
2024, 2025, 2030

I agree with BP. The CAA is a great FCS conference but JMU doesn’t have too many competitive games in it these days. JMU doesn’t have to schedule a top 10 team, just give us a team that can compete for a half.

If Houston wants a tougher schedule, he just has to say so. If the schedule doesn’t change it’s because that’s the way he wants it.

I agree with BP. The CAA is a great FCS conference but JMU doesn’t have too many competitive games in it these days. JMU doesn’t have to schedule a top 10 team, just give us a team that can compete for a half.

If Houston wants a tougher schedule, he just has to say so. If the schedule doesn’t change it’s because that’s the way he wants it.

This is true.

And ya know what? What Houston wants, is what I want. 02-13-banana

Now that makes some sense.

Regarding SFU: I doubt they average half what Lehigh does for game attendance and the reason they'd just as soon play for pay.

Well, didn't you do the same for the NC State game? 04-cheers

Yes I did. And MH will be the first to tell you JMU should have won that game. 04-cheers

When is the last time you did not pick JMU? 03-shhhh

Never. 04-cheers

I would love to be there just to see the look of shock on their faces. We could win the national championship again this year and they would still think they'd beat us by 5+ TDs.
I would just fear for my safety, that's all.

Agree, I'll be there but I'll leave my family at home.
Oh come, you've got nothing to worry about. Nicest fans in the world..

RE: JMU @ WVU 2019
JMU doesn’t have to bring in bottom of the barrel teams to win OOC home games.

The question is are they willing to pay enough money to bring in teams that are somewhat more competitive but want more $$$ if there is no return game. Almost all FCS teams are hurting for money and will take a pay day especially if they can travel by bus.
Part of the dilemma is there are few FCS teams on the east coast that may be considered legit competition.
Take a look at the 5 East coast conferences and you will find only a few worthy programs in the Big South, Southern, MEAC, NEC, and Patriot conferences.

This isn’t your father’s FCS. Many matchups from days gone by are no longer playing FCS football and have left JMU alone in the sandbox.
App State
Georgia Southern
Liberty
Coastal Carolina
South Florida
Charlotte

These are schools that JMU used to play OOC. There is nothing left on the East Coast that can replace those former OOC options. Assuming Midwest and West teams are not feasible because the flight costs diminish too much of the guarantee payment,
Who can JMU buy on the East Coast that makes a difference?

I don’t know why JMU doesn’t schedule VMI anymore. Not that VMI will provide a stiffer test than a MEAC school, but VMI will bring more fans to BFS. Perhaps VMI won’t play JMU, or wants more $$ as suggested.
