W&M - Under new management
New President, new Athletic Director, now a new Provost, and last but not least, new football coach...you cant deny this is a major shake-up and its all happening nearly simultaneously.

This multitude of overlapping major changes could undoubtedly change much about these sacred grounds. Let us hope they continue to push forward.

And, more than the people you listed. Sometimes, we shake it up too much and the pressure causes overflow.

Amen....sad to seem some long time people unceremoniously depart under the radar.

RE: W&M - Under new management
We dropped from 32nd to tied for 38th with Boston College and Cal-Davis in US News' Top Universities released today. UVA stayed at #25.

Not sure what metrics caused the drop, but it is a necessary area needing to be addressed by the change of guard, regardless of how you feel about the validity of the rankings.

RE: W&M - Under new management
US News added social mobility and dropped acceptance rates. The public schools of CA got a big boost from the new methodology thanks to their high graduation rates of low-income students (PELL grant students). Our ranking being lower than UC Santa Barbara or UC Irvine doesn't make much sense.

WSJ has Wm and Mary ranked at 100; just behind the Gouchos from UCSB. Also trailing UVA and UR.

WSJ has never ranked us very highly; in fact, I believe we have been below UR for several years.

Disconcerting none the less.

No one with a brain would put us behind Santa Barbara.

Probably so. But, all colleges in California are over-rated save, maybe, Cal Poly. They get their strong rankings from financial aide numbers snatched from the souls of taxpayers. It's criminal what Californians have to donate each paycheck.

RE: W&M - Under new management
This comes from a reliable source. It also falls under the file of truth being stranger than fiction. Accordingly it is reported that a veteran employee in the athletic dept was summarily fired. The fired one refused to leave their office! Police were called and issue was resolved. Some kind of dust up! There have been some cryptic comments wrt housecleaning. Nothing
Much cryptic about this.
And now, for all you legal beagles, a lawsuit is brewing.

I was glad to see the President and Athletic Director both at the coin toss.

The real key will be to see how many other games Pres. Rowe can find the time to make it to, as this season rolls along to what looks like a sad conclusion. Does she really have any interest in the football program? We'll see.

Since there is a Presidents Box in the luxury box section on Zable's second tier and it is used for the president to invite key donors and potential donors, politicians and the like it would appear she will be at all the games as a matter of course.

As bubba says, this is a regular occurrence, for all of our Presidents, to be able to connect with potential big donors, for sports and non-sports projects.

The adjective "big" is probably why I, personally, have never been invited to said booth, but I have snapped up more than a few of those very tasty chocolate chip cookies in my time.

So, yes, I also expect her to be at most games.

President Rowe was the guest speaker at our recent Tribe Club board meeting and I can tell you, YES-she has real interest in the football program and all of our sports programs. I imagine she will be out there for the coin toss for every game. She and her husband have already been to many sporting events, even separately so as to spread the support around.

She is competitive, she wants to win, and she sees sports as a way to elevate the college on a national level. She talked about UMBC's NCAA appearance and the big lift it had for the school. She truly sees the tremendous value that a MBB NCAA appearance will have for W&M.

I sat between Samantha Huge and President Rowe at the meeting. I have always thought of myself as competitive. I'm not sure I can hold a candle to either one of these ladies. We are in good hands.

RE: W&M - Under new management
So awesome!

The William and Mary that I attended as a student was full of competitive students and competitive coaches and competitive administrators.

Lately, the William and Mary that I observe as an alum has been sorely lacking the competitive juices, with exceptions of course, at all three levels.

Wouldn't it just be a kick in the pants if these two ladies re-kindle the competitive athletic juices at our old school? At both of their hires, all of the attention was directed to other issues, and it was unclear as to how competitive they were, and how competitive they want the College to be, on a go forward basis relative to intercollegiate athletics.

I wonder if the academic types realize that they may have two tigers by the tail.

Does this mean that we will play in the CBI and/or CIT?

:-)

Based on Rowe's background in ultimate and Huge's previous employers, this shouldn't surprise anyone. Rowe is an athlete and administrator; her accomplishments outside academia show drive and passion for both of those things. It's a little disappointing that posts like Mrs. Got Ribe's have to be made.

Mrs. posted- "She sees sports as a way to elevate the college on a national level".

This is a surprise, and it is far from disappointing that this post was made - it is informative.

One can have drive and passion, and steer the college to the Patriot.

One can have drive and passion, and steer the College to the CAA and beyond.

When these ladies were hired, it was unclear where there drive and passion were headed. With Mrs.'s post, the latter is in play, and I'm surprised, and happy.
