Other than the fact that evidence suggests there is no safe level of exposure.

That is not remotely true. Exposure to encapsulated asbestos is perfectly safe.

Of course, if it's encapsulated, you're not exposed to it. 03-wink

What is the big deal here? Asbestos is not illegal. It is highly regulated and used safely all the time now.

Well, well, well....

So, no, Trump's EPA is not allowing asbestos bank into manufacturing. It is merely following the law passed by Congress and signed into law by Obama. Yet ANOTHER boomerang.

Quote:In 2016 Congress passed a revised version of the Toxic Substances Control Act which requires the EPA to periodically review certain substances to see if they should be banned or if existing restrictions on their use should be lessened.

The current news concerns the fact that in June asbestos was listed as one of 10 such chemicals that are undergoing review. As part of that review, the EPA is soliciting "public comment" on whether asbestos should be totally banned or granted a "Significant New Use" designation - in line with the review required by the 2016 amendment to the Toxic Substances Act.

This is not a "rolling back" of restrictions on asbestos. Even if it is granted Significant New Use designation - and its very unlikely that will happen - that still requires a company to jump through an extraordinary amount of regulatory hurdles before being able to sell asbestos. And even then, companies would be required to go back through the approval process again for each different asbestos containing product they wish to sell."

The company has support from the government and President Vladimir Putin, even though their economic success exposes the local residents to major health risks. Once referred to as “the dying city,” Asbest’s residents have reported the carcinogenic dust is often found as a thick film over garden vegetables, laundry lines, and even on the floors of their homes.

Earlier last month, The Washington Post noted that the Environmental Working Group (EWG) and the ADAO had discovered a controversial post on Uralasbest’s Facebook page showing photos of company pallets stamped with a seal of U.S. President Donald Trump’s face. Trump has long been vocal about his skepticism on the harmful effects of asbestos, citing in his 1997 book, The Art of the Comeback, that anti-asbestos efforts were “led by the mob.” In 2012, he tweeted that the World Trade Center might not have burned had the fire-retardant material not been removed from the towers. It’s estimated that 400 tons of asbestos fiber went into the structures before the developers stopped it from being used further in 1971.
EPA is now allowing asbestos back into manufacturing

The revenues from mesothelioma had dropped for knuckle dragging ambulance & hearse chasing attorneys who are mostly leftists, so it only made sense to re-institute the use of asbestos in building. It was the only way to give trickle down income to the idiots who support, or run for office in, the Democratic party.

A sense of humor gained from all of the TV commercials that feature the bottom dwellers of attorneys looking to gig a nickel. And at least in Georgia and Alabama the preponderance of those guys, some of which I know, are Democrats.

700 metric tons was imported during Obama's last year.

Tom, comment?

Was that a bad thing?

I would imagine it depends on what it was used for and how. I would need more information before commenting on it.

Why? You didn't need any more info on this to comment on it.
