What hasn’t worked? NATO has withstood the rise in communism and its subsequent fall. Its been a remarkably successful partnership... which is why Vladimir Putin wants to weaken it.

Look at the spending... NATO hasn't withstood communism, the US has along with minimal help from those that reside on communism's doorstep.

They undermined themselves when they became dependent on Russian gas and oil. Not only are they enriching the Russians while screwing over the United States both in trade and in defense expenditures, they are totally at the mercy of the Russians if the Russians decide to turn off the pipeline. NATO isn't going to be able to provide them with fuel and gas if Russia gets pissed and cuts off the supply.
