DeKalb222—-Help—-German Question
222—fully trust and respect your opinion on Huskies basketball. What percentage guess do you put at having Geno in an NIU uniform this upcoming season. His quotes “if things go south, I can go back to school” lean me towards very slim....but your eyes.....anywhere near 50/50???
Also, any word on where Hamilton or Thomas landed. I know our previous studs of Wilson and Porter haven’t dribbled a ball since departing..
Thanks in advance and look forward to your answer.

RE: DeKalb222—-Help—-German Question
I’ve heard he’s sure to come back. I read that article too and saw the scout said he’s a good g league fit. Hopefully he returns and I think he’ll leave next year if Monte is gone too.

RE: DeKalb222—-Help—-German Question
He has until the 30th to take his name out of the draft. I would be shocked if this doesn’t happen this weekend or early next week. German is not a NBA player. I honestly don’t believe he ever will be but I’m not a NBA GM. I believe he is 90% back at NIU, 10% NBA G-league.

RE: DeKalb222—-Help—-German Question
Also, I have no in with NIU basketball. I know the coaches but that’s it. I will be on Monty’s ass the next time I see him at the coaches caravan. Last year at the caravan I was telling him there is no way they will be good with 8 new players and of course he was giving me his BS line that they will be good. I’m close enough with him that I have no problem telling him why NIU fans have lost faith in him and the program.

His workout with the Bulls is today.
Now that is the PERFECT representation of Geno’s GAME: 13 shots, exactly ONE pass.

Really solid highlights.
Solid highlights? They are self edited jumps shots and lay ups against no defense in a gym with some other gym rats watching. We have know idea if he showed us 13 of 14 attempts or 156 attempts. I’m pretty sure Austin Pauga could put together something like this.
I wish Geno the best, but something like this isn’t going to have agents nor scouts rushing to the Convo.

Did someone sprinkle salt in your Cheerios this morning?Geez. Of course it’s an edit. Anytime an NIU Huskie is getting attention from pro scouts it should be appreciated and celebrated. Chances are he’ll be back next season and we’ll be better than last year if he’s not NBA material yet. Our basketball program can’t get any worst than it’s been. He’s what Marshawn Wilson might have been if Marshawn was focused....

No, sorry, no salt at all and no intent to discredit Geno or the program. The fact that this was posted here as “solid” highlights is ridiculous because he could do what is in the clip in his sleep. I would love to see “solid highlights” against the Loyola players and other number that were there. Since Loyola is trumpeting their players at the Bulls workout today this isn’t a private workout.
I really didn’t mean for that to come off sounding bad—and I really wish him well. I really hope that these workouts give him back a lot of constructive insight and he really gets a realistic shot in two years. Two years is the key. I am totally with you that we need positivity given to this program and with him back, honing the skills he needs to improve, give us a large opportunity for some positive results.

Geno is very talented and likely will get even better at shooting the 3pt shot. Geno is a layup or 3pt shot guy that is his game. I’m hoping that the new point guards can get the ball out of Geno’s hands sometimes as this team needs a distributor. Geno is all about Geno going to the NBA. I am glad he’s a Huskie but for Gods sake pass the ball once in awhile!

RE: DeKalb222—-Help—-German Question
If Marshawn Wilson put in the effort like Geno does Wilson would’ve had a legit shot at NBA. Wilson had some learning disabilities and didn’t want to participate in school. He had tremendous basketball talent and could’ve been special! I also 100% believe had Highsmith not tore up his knee he would’ve been one of the best ever at NIU. Highsmith had tremendous talent and work ethic. If Geno can figure out that distributing the ball along with making his shots will make him a better NBA prospect then he will have a slight chance. Right now he thinks scoring will get him to the NBA.

Sorry guys, didn’t mean to get this thread off the track. Original reason for my post was to get a feel from 222 on his thoughts of Geno returning. My opinion is that the highlights are something we see all time, some long range shooting, nice drives and crazy layups (that he makes) and found irony in the one pass in fourteen highlights. Did not mean in any way to discredit the work he has done (in one of these posts BDB points out how his has filled out), the work he is doing and the fact that he is, at the very least, getting some workouts.
I really hope for at least one more year—maybe two we get to watch him hone these skills at the Convo. I really hope he has some insight to Marshawn Wilson and learns from that and it appears he works 1000 x more than Wilson did. I don’t know if he has a real chance, but he’s working hard at it.
Again, didn’t mean to run this thread into a negative direction.

Really thought from everything Geno said when he joined the program that he would be more of an "all-in", "win at all costs" type player. Does not appear that is the case. In his defense, he is not in an ideal situation right now so I feel for him that way. I keep thinking back to that Kent first round game this past March and the team mutiny which occurred on the bench, seeing McCarty and German almost comes to blows. I don't know about everyone else, but I am just soooooooooooooooooo sick of attitudes and controllable factors getting in the way of performance. Where does this stem from, is it a culture MM has created or is it a longer term culture created over say a 15 to 20 year period. We have just had these never ending stream of "me me" players for a long time now. Why can Buffalo integrate so much talent without having the battle of egos take place? Maybe it is because Buffalo has established that longer term positive culture over a few decades, and for individuals to go off the tracks in a program like that is harder. I actually think NIU was closer to being a decent team last year than many people think, but how does NIU get over this systemic cultural blockade to success, its really mind boggling.
