RE: Stadium Renovation and Construction Thread
Quote:MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota football team will no longer call its home facility TCF Bank Stadium.

The school's Board of Regents voted Tuesday to approve a resolution changing the name of TCF Bank Stadium to Huntington Bank Stadium, which recently acquired TCF Financial Corporation for more than $22 billion back in December of 2020. The transaction was approved and closed earlier this month. The U of M has had a naming agreement with TCF for the home of Gophers football since it opened in 2009. TCF got the naming rights to the stadium in 2005 on a 26-year, $35 million agreement with the school that runs through 2030.

No, a lot of UH fans are thinking the same thing, and the players and coaches are excited about playing on campus and having more students at the games.

However the harsh realities are that the site is only large enough to accommodate a 20K-25K seat stadium and the university lacks the funding to build a true FBS-caliber facility. Also traffic on game days would be horrendous due to very constrained access routes onto campus. The surrounding Manoa community which is one of the most affluent on the island would probably fight it tooth and nail.

My guess is that after two or three seasons sqeezing into an undersized venue where the bleacher seats are mostly uncomfortable and have lousy views, the novelty will wear off and everyone will be excited about returning to a full-sized stadium with easy access, big-time crowds, excellent sight lines and state-of-the-art amenities.

Is the entire OCS site temporary, or will it revert to a smaller capacity field for women's soccer & track?

The plan is to leave the Ching Field improvements in place after the UH football team moves to its future home at reconstructed Aloha Stadium. The 15K-seat on-campus facility will be ideal for marquee high school football games and also could host UH football scrimmages, high school marching band shows, concerts, university assemblies and graduations, etc. And of course the track will remain available for UH women's track & field meets.

However Ching Field won't be used for UH women's soccer matches as the team already plays at a beautiful 4,500-seat stadium with a grass field at a county soccer complex near Pearl Harbor:

At UH’s temporary stadium, the new bleachers continue to rise and the “H” logo is now painted on the new field turf:

Meanwhile here’s the latest conceptual rendering of the future Aloha Stadium replacement and surrounding entertainment district development:

I guess it is because of the hot sun...I'd sure love to flip that stadium 180 degrees to catch the ocean.

$95 million to totally re-do the East Stands at Army's Michie Stadium. I believe this is cadet and visitor seating.

Me too, especially since season ticket sales are now underway. Not trying to clutter up the thread but if there’s anything new/interesting in their next video I’ll post it.

Go for it...not a ton of stadium stuff going on. What they are doing in Hawaii is actually interesting.

LOL. We actually had a rainbow-colored track before it was replaced two years ago. The sun had faded the colors quite a bit by the time this photo was taken:

Truth be told there's no substitute for the real thing:

The long white platform visible on top of the new sideline bleachers is where the VIP boxes will be installed.
