RE: FAU #17 in the USA Today poll
Coaching matters, but the argument we are not more talented than teams in the conference is crazy. Every recruiting site has us or 1-2 overall the last 4 years. The only team that is equal or close is Marshall this why they are the only team to play us close. Lane even said after that game that was was by far the biggest best front we were going to see all year in conference.
Out of 9 of our C-USA games only one was played under two TD’s that’s good coaching and talent.
It so funny seeing La Tech fans make excuses of 25 point beat down at your place acting like we scored every point off a trick play. They hang their hat on 500 yards yet for 100th time it was by design!!! We led the conference in interceptions and sacks and we were third in scoring D. LA Tech last TD of the game was a 4th and 15 toss up. Azeez and Piere both dropped easy picks in that game. You were lucky it was that close.
La Tech should hang a banner for that game.

“FAU needed a trick play and we got 500 yards in a 25 point loss”

I guess you are forgetting it took some stupid play calling by boy wonder for Western to fall apart in the 4th qt?

Western was up 8 and the next two possessions....

first and goal and again stupid play calling ended up - missed FG

1ST AND 10 @FAU 31 and boy wonder wants to go deep instead of short quick passes that got us down the field.....INT

Score either of those and the out come is different

Then FAU ran a fake punt while Western's coaches slept

Coaching matters...Brohm on the sideline and it's a whole different season and outcome in CUSA

Just LMAO.

Cmon man, the same FAU team that beat CUSA teams lost to Navy by forty or fifty and freaking Buffalo at the begining of the year. Talent alone would have stopped unathletic Navy team and a pitiful MAC team. Or at least kept Navy from kicking FAU A**. Trust me we know, Tech beat Navy in a Bowl 9 months before your game

It took awhile for the players to adjust to the system and for the trick plays to iron out. And once it did, FAU started rolling, no doubt about that. Props to Kiffen and Briles for turning around the season after the disasterous losses against mediocre teams. Once again coaching

The ranking seems high because Briles is leaving and that was the key to FAU winning, it sure wasnt that defense, BTW Navy put 500++ yards on FAU just like Tech

As far as the FAU-Tech game, their was reason why Tech lead the NCAA by far in failed red zone attempts and nothing to do with FAU. UAB,UNT,USM,USC same story for all those games. We easy moved the ball down field and once we got inside the 20 Holtz didnt trust JMAR to throw. Kiffen knew that Tech lead all of NCAA football in failed red zone. Once again coaching.

BTW Kiffen coached circles around Holtz that day; 21 points, 2 TD trick plays that lead to receivers not being covered and 1 td from the kickoff return and that was ballgame

Yes, FAU had a rough 4-game start, no doubt about that, and the 42-19 loss to Navy was the toughest of them all, followed by a respectable 31-14 loss to #9 Wisconsin.

He did not win with UTEP players. He won with 4 consecutive top recruiting classes. Let's not forget that. Is he going 11-3 without Singletary or Wright or without the 5 experienced OLs playing as a unit the whole season? Not in a million years. He did not recruit these guys, either.

Ok. Thy doesn’t mean we weren’t talented.
Talented teams lose all the time.
In 2016 FAU started 4 upper classmen started 12 different guys on the onlinemen and had a poor coaching staff. In 2015 and 2016 FAU lost 8 games by and single score. Even being a young, poorly coached injured team we still were close to most of this conference.

I know rhe naritive you want to have in your head you want Kiffin to leave us go back to being 3-9 so the USM fans can complain how no one in the confrence raises the profile of the league. USM and La Tech fans know their peak isn’t good enough. They will always be just be a low budget middle of the road programs living off a history no one cares about anymore.

The rough start was understandable. The new coaching staff and players needed time to gel. Y'all obviously were a much better team by the end of the season.

(05-03-2018 12:16 PM)shiftyeagle Wrote:  Kiffin can coach circles around ANY OTHER COACH in this conference. He ran through this conference with a team that was just plain awful in previous seasons. The players didn't suddenly become more talented......they just became well-coached. FAU wasn't the most talented team in the conference and they won't be this year either. But good coaching and knowing how to use players based on their respective skill sets is often paramount to pure talent, especially in a conference like this. The talent gap among teams in this conference is not large......it isn't like say......Alabama and Vanderbilt or Clemson and Wake Forest. The gap in pure talent between say......UTEP and FAU is not nearly as wide as that of Alabama and Vanderbilt. The main difference is coaching. UTEP hasn't had a competent football coach in years and it shows. Before Kiffin, FAU was similar.

A repeat conference championship is all but inevitable for FAU. He makes other coaches look completely clueless.

I agree Kiffin is a good coach I think you forgetting his offensive coordinator this year wasn't to shabby either. Kendal Briles can flat out coach too. Even tho Art turned into a ****** CEO of a college football program his ability to coach X's and O's have never been questioned. And he passed alot of that knowledge to Kendal

This doesn’t really help your cause. Just how you guys have had the top recruiting classes in CUSA we’ve had the worst recruiting classes in the nation for about five years straight. Don’t forget the season prior to Kiffin you guys went life and death against UTEP at home.

As long as you only lose to UCF, I hope FAU is very successful.

If FAU goes undefeated, Kiffen will guaranteed be gone.

RE: FAU #17 in the USA Today poll
USM and La Tech fans are so salty it’s unreal they will never admit FAU was a good addition to this conference.

They just love complaining like the old guy in the bar who tells story’s of high school glories and how it will never be the same.

Even Marshall and FIU fans give us credit when it’s due, but when we beat LA Tech by 25 in their place it’s a “I’m not that impressed”
I would never call WKU or ODU a cellar dweller if they have a few bad because I know those programs can be great and have a lots of good stuff going for them.
Though I can see the frustration for USM and La Tech it’s decades of teams around them moving on to bigger and better places and yet you get to be in a conference with a bunch of school that relatively new programs.

Couldn’t they just use up some of their 100 years of football tradition to pay coaches?
