RE: Baseball & Softball
Our Flames softball had a spectacular season! Dot Richardson has done an astounding job. And we should have a solid foundation to build on with the Bishop twins, Via, McFarland, and DiMartino.

I think the fellas are gonna be challenged in the A-Sun. Hope they are up to the challenge.

RE: Baseball & Softball
For fun, I looked up some 2018 baseball (RPI) and softball (MBR) conference rankings.

Baseball
ASun 7
Big South 24

Big East 12
A-10 19

Softball
ASun 9
Big South 19

Big East 21
A-10 24

Having LU in the ASun is a major upgrade for baseball and softball. I put the BE and A10 as a comparison if LU even had the chance to go to either conference in the future. Basically, M/W basketball would be significantly upgraded but baseball and softball would take a step back in terms of conference strength.

Was more interested in.....
#4 - AAC
#11 - C-USA
..... baseball rankings. That’s where I figure we’ll eventually end up over time.

I couldn’t find the softball rankings for those comferences.

And the season comes to an end with a semifinal loss to Campbell and a 32-26 record.

Overall a very underwhelming season. Unless we have some real gems coming in as freshmen next year it may be much the same.

I expect at least 36 regular season wins and less than 20 losses per season.

RE: Baseball & Softball
That might be a bit harsh. Our pitching staff was decimated by injuries and hopefully will be back next season. I suspect we lose Artis but considering the circumstances I am good with the results.

We’ve got a decent bit coming back. I think we will be better next year. The team looked pretty good in the tourney and they have an entire offseason to correct some of the issues.

RE: Baseball & Softball
We have a coach entering his third year at the helm. His recruits should be leading the team for the most part next year so we'll see what he's made of. Add in a new conference and there are lots of variables.

Coach Jackson was hired in the summer before his first season. Baseball recruiting season was over at that point. Any coach hired midsummer gets a pass on that year's recruiting class.

The A-Sun will be a test for both our baseball & softball teams. The latter is better prepared of the two right now.

IIRC the ASUN has two tournament bids this year compared to one bid for the Big South.

I agree with Slyfox. The ASUN will really test LU baseball and softball. Hopefully two years of stronger recruiting will help make LU competitive in the conference.
