I'm happy for CLL because he is 100% True Blue. I just think that we could have and should have done better.

Well if you want to play that game, then it took a Georgia Southern guy to help make your defense what it is.

With the results of the last two weeks it makes sense. The talent was there all along and Summers didn't know what he was doing.

idk if Lunsford is a genius playcaller or exceptional at devising schemes. But he seems like a great recruiter and motivator. That's all you need from a HC!! I believe Shawn Elliott also falls into this category.

You are just reacting based on what you've seen from a fraction of our fans.

The AD was in a no-win position.

But this is nothing new about our split fanbase. A brief historical look at a number of divergent paths that has kept some of us cranky.

1990 - Tim Stowers was hired over Mike Healey
2002 - Mike Sewak hired over Rusty Russell
2006 - BVG hired over anybody
2015 - Summers hired out of left field
2017 - TBD

The thing is, there is a vocal group, growing smaller as the group ages and they are flexbone or bust at every coaching hire.

The above hiring picks have happened under 3 different AD's. Each have had their own period of time at Georgia Southern where they've made at least one incredibly poor decision.

But of course, no one is perfect.

I like Chad, he has the motivational talents IMO to get the job done, I just hope he has the gravitational pull to improve our assistant coaching staff. That was the biggest failure by Summers and our AD with the last iteration.

About an asinine hire as you can make with your job depending on the hire and it is.

Our AD just hired a guy with a worse resume than the guy we just fired....how does that happen. We got skulled dragged by Troy and App beaten by a mediocre GaSt yet two wins over a team that fired its coach and another that should means this guy is the next coming of Erk all of a sudden? I guess if he beats one win CCU we put up a statue next week the way some are mesmerized by him. Somehow being TrueBlue, elbowing chairs and the players loving him is going to get us 14 points a game before the clock starts.

It was an emotion hire that has more of chance not to work out as it does. Gonna get real if the OC leaves and we get Rance Gillespie 2.0.

LOVE the man LOVE his passion but about a big risk hire you could make and dumb compared to what you could have hired. If you hire a resume like Houston and it does not work out then your job maybe safe as there was NOTHING to point to other than rings and wins.

With that being said nobody will be pulling for him as much as me and hope he wins EVERY game. Please be more PJ Fleck than Summers...for the love of God.

Not even close from what I see so far the fan base is split. The media and social over hyped the love for a Lunsford hire.

Not one person that I saw stated they would not be happy with Houston just maybe not their first pic due to the undying love of the option. Some were split on Davis vs Bohannon due to scheme but would take either.

The only polarizing hire was going to be this one and our AD made it...like we knew he would.

Lunsford has done a great job with this year's GS team but this does appear to be the "easy way out" for the AD. Did GS do much of a national search?? Is this hire somewhat finance driven?? Were there not experienced head coaches with a stronger resume to consider, even at the FCS or Division II level?? Couldn't they have waited until the end of the FCS playoffs to take a further look at some of those head coaches??

He's done a really good job in two games, and the rest of his resume is against the back half of the season where the strength of schedule is much weaker. I'd say the jury is still out and the trigger was pulled too soon.

Nope... not with early signing period coming up. Its possible things dissolved with Mike Houston & Brian Bohannon if we asked them to come now instead of finishing the playoffs. Brian might be out this weekend, but Mike will likely play till January.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this hire.. but also very nervous about it.

I think you could say Satterfield was a "safe" choice for you guys when he was made HC as well. He had been a career position coach at App and only left for 3 years, with only 2 of those as an OC.

Yes I know he spearheaded the move to the spread, but it also was not his team to lead. But he learned a lot under Jerry Moore, cause I refuse to believe he learned much at Toledo and FIU.

Lunsford has been under Moore (ugh :) ), Sewak, Chizik, Monken, Fritz, and Summers (and whoever was at GMC at the time). I think he's learned a lot about the things that do and don't work.
