I don't think so. Not a shot will be fired in my opinion.

The likely outcome will be an asymmetrical diplomatic win-win that will mostly benefit North Korea, probably within the next year. North Korea gains food concessions, reduced sanctions, and a fully operational nuclear weapons program too dangerous to be be attacked.

The West shakes hands and toasts to more Peace In Our Time ™

I agree with this 100%.

Perhaps many was the wrong word, but I seem to remember a couple posters listing it as how well he's doing, that he handled North Korea.

I could be wrong.

I don't have a problem with how he has handled it. I also don't see a problem in how he has handled the federal response to Harvey. Then I again...I'm not looking to find things to be upset about. There have been plenty without manufacturing outrage.

He got NK to blink first a couple of weeks ago when Kim was firing missles regularly and threatening to strike the mainland US. They halted test firing.

That was a win that Trump needed. Lord knows he hasn't had many lately.

That was a win that Trump needed. Lord knows he hasn't had many lately.

But in hindsight, it was not a win. This test shows that. You can't look at a one or two week period with no activity as some type of result with NK.

And the only one here who will ever win this is NK. They will get a deliverable bomb eventually like a few other places and there's basically nothing we can do about it. There is no military solution here that does not kill scores of South Koreans and scores of Americans.

Our only hope is to convince Russia and China to go along with us to bring enough pressure to halt their activities. If trump can pull that off he truly deserves the Nobel Prize!

If, and when IMO, they get the deliverable bomb our only hope is to rely on our capabilities to destroy them many times over. Un appears crazy, but he's not stupid...and he certainly doesn't want to die a martyr for a nothing cause. There is no faction that will be left after their country is obliterated to even martyr him should they launch a pre-preemptive nuclear attack that will assuredly mean the end of their tiny little country.

trump needs to drop the bombastic language that CANNOT be followed up with any military action to match it, not without a first strike by NK that is. This language only legitimizes their tiny little country that really has nothing else. So stop giving them the only thing that makes them relevant!

Max Boot has the correct take on this and should be listened to.

And I don't have a problem with the way the government has handled it so far either. But it's way too early to tell how they're doing. The hard part hasn't even really started yet.

I like the silent treatment so far. Not so sure it's by design, we are sort of pre-occupied with the disaster in Houston at the moment, but from a military perspective it probably has NK wondering why there wasn't an immediate response from the US.

Well...Bannon let the cat out of the bag and probably got him self fired in the process, when he said publicly what we all really knew in that there is no military option for NK that doesn't involve mass death of Americans and our close allies.

FWIW if Trump said the sky is blue and grass is green, Max Boot would write an article about how the sky is red and the grass is pink.

True, but would you rather fight that war AFTER NK manages to kill a million or so with a nuke or before? Bottom line is that it's better fought in the very near future on the Korean peninsula than after there are civilian casualties in the mainland US, Japan, or SK.

Right now NK doesn't know what to expect in retaliation for their actions. I like that.

NK has had the bomb since like 2006. They ain't preemptively bombing anyone. There is no reason for them to guarantee their total destruction. Their saber rattling is only to fend off any potential regime change from outside forces.

Trump clearly stated he was not going to give our enemies our game plans. I applaud that strategy.

He's a well respected conservative expert on foreign policy.

And a virulent NeverTrumper.

Might not mean his writings are wrong per se, but you have to read his writing within the lens of he's a NeverTrumper. For instance, his widely reported comment of “I would sooner vote for Josef Stalin than vote for Donald Trump.”

Lots to unpack in that statement, then try to reconcile his current foreign policy writings about the current Administration.
