That depends on how fund raising is going. Has everyone on this board donated to the Campaign To Sustain?

There is no money unless somebody writes a mega dollar check. The rainmakers for NIU are the AD and president. It takes years to develop a relationships with big buck donors. We just lost our president and process starts all over again.

Small donations by Thousands are worth more than one big donation every 10 years.

The 80/20 Rule Is Alive And Well In Fundraising or is it 90/10 at NIU.

Just another pointless, government-invented, 'make-work' position that drains resources without contributing anything tangible back. Six figure salary for literally accomplishing nothing, kind of like Baker.

"Inclusion officer" is a part time, 35-40k/yr job at best, although it shouldn't even exist in the first place. 189k a yr. exceeds what astronauts, dentists, engineers, and some doctors even make. Ridiculous waste. Custodians at NIU contribute more to the school.

Lets not waste our time arguing about the importance of the position, or lack thereof. The point was that, while other important positions were being eliminated or "not refilled", the University went out of its way to create a new and expensive position that used to and could still be covered by a cost-free volunteer committee. Just aggravating when logic leaves the room...
We're all for a diverse NIU with a packed football stadium

Bleeding heart liberals will bleed every cent available for their perceived BS causes. Nothing like KILLING the university so you can feel self righteous. Gimme a break.

I'm Hispanic. I'm also a first generation college student who graduated from NIU.
What are these difficulties you speak of?

I work at an institution of higher education in the Chicagoland area and I can assure you that whatever difficulties students encounter are appropriately addressed by the school. There are an astounding number of services available to minority, foreign, LGBT, etc. students to minimize any difficulties and to get them through school. I know this first hand because I have been involved with them. Students are even tutored in high school English and math to get them up to minimum college standards. Students are given assistance to acclimate them to the college environment and even how to act among peers in social settings. There are programs for foreign students to get them through classes that are not in their native language and, in general, life in America and the Chicagoland area. There are programs and accommodations for LGBT students. Diversity is and has been the number 1 priority where I work. If anyone needs any assistance of any kind, all they need to do is inquire. And all of this was before a diversity officer was hired which, of course, one was.

They had 80 freshman. How can they even stay open? That's insane.

Well, naturally they have to hire some people to figure out how to stay open with so few students.
