RE: Women's Basketball Tournament
Hmmm, the Tribe website says that the WNIT is 64 teams. So maybe the "C" tournaments don't exist anymore. Hard to believe that the Tribe would not be considered one of the top 128 teams in the country......

Women's Basketball Tournament
It was the WNIT, and I remember being somewhat surprised since we weren't that many games over .500. I have no idea how selection for that works, but from what the announcers were saying during the Delaware game it sounds like we have a good shot at an invite.

RE: Women's Basketball Tournament
It was the WBI, not the WNIT. They were right at .500 going into the game with Xavier.

Looks like W&M got snubbed of a WNIT bid. Only Drexel and JMU got bids.

RE: Women's Basketball Tournament
It appears that W&M had the best RPI of any team eligible and not selected for the WNIT. Their RPI was 125 and there were two schools with worse RPI's selected : Alabama at 132 and La. Tech at 139. I can understand Alabama but cannot understand La. Tech as they had an RPI of 139 and their record was 19-13 and they had no wins against the top 50. My guess is that W&M was probably one of the first four out.
The selection process was that the team with the best conference record from each of the 32 conferences not selected to the NCAA tournament was given automatic bids with 32 additional at large selections. (JMU got the CAA automatic bid and Drexel was selected at large)To be eligible for an at large selection a team had to have at least a 500 record. Both Wake Forest and Colorado were selected with 15-15 records.

This is why La. Tech was selected:

Great disappointment for all---the ladies, coaching staff, athletic department. They believe, and rightly so, they deserved a bid.

RE: Women's Basketball Tournament
A comparison of W&M and La. Tech is as follows:
record against top 50 rpi W&M 1-4; LA. Tech 0-4
record against top 100 rpi W&M 2-6; La. Tech 0-6

one common opponent ODU - W&M won on the road
La. Tech lost at home

Also one of the LA. Tech wins was against a NAIA opponent.

RE: Women's Basketball Tournament
Man oh man, welcome to the reality behind NCAA hoops, men's and women's. Wake up!

La Tech is basketball royalty. W&M is not.

The NCAA will do no favors for W&M in hoops, men's and women's. It's auto bid to NCAA / NIT ... or zip.

Get used to the fact that W&M is a beggar, happily accepting the occasional NCAA scraps.

Get used to the fact that there's one set of rules for Florida State and Utah, and another set of rules for W&M.

Sick of it all.

Still waiting for the day that all of the small East Coast schools wake up, and stop providing academic cover for the chosen few.

It takes leadership from the top down. We've had none. Hopefully Huge will make a difference. Reading her bio, my gut tells me she's going to fit nicely into a box that the administration has created for her. We'll be great at Olympic sports just like we have been. I hope I'm wrong.

Sorry I must have missed something, who is "Hugh"? Do we have a new AD?

You know, I've been trying to fight this same impression.

I don't want to pre-judge, but all her past resumes (and that is a fairly BIG number of jobs) and compliments tend to suggest she is a good numbers person and a good team player. I hope (to high heaven) that she is also a creative person, because that is what we really badly need.
