Hooper improved as the season went on. I didn't like the way P Hiatt was punting last year. I don't know if it was his style or he was instructed to do so. We cannot keep punting 30 yards from our end zone.

I've got to think he was instructed to hold the ball like that. I don't know why he holds the ball straight up and down but I have trouble believing our punter went rogue

Wonder if Dorka was also concerned about injuries, he got hurt pretty bad this year. He was good enough he probably would've at least gotten into an NFL camp, but I can't fault him for leaving. Huge downgrade at the kicking position though

If they received a good job offer, they should take it. It is not that easy to get a spot on the NFL roster.

I'm not certain, but I don't believe that Dorka came on a scholarship, and maybe he never got one. Time to graduate and move on.

Hiott was all conference and all area in high school from, believe it or not, the same home town of Luke Rhodes. He punted fine. His pooch kicks are less about his punting and more on the lack of confidence in the punt cover team. He had the most kicks inside the 20 and had the longest punt of the year. He should be fine.

He changed his hold at some point, and had significant improvement after that.

RE: 2017 Football
Because I have absolutely no inside information on spring camp or the QB battle, I've been reduced to counting which quarterback has been photographed most in practice. The results are as follows:

Theodore Hefter - 6
Shon Mitchell - 5
Tommy McKee - 3
Dean Rotger - 3
Brandon Battle - 2

It could mean nothing but it could also mean EVERYTHING

Jimmye hinted that he didn't want to throw a new OC into the mix of Spring Ball. Probably won't name one until after spring practice is finished.

I guarantee that list won't resemble the August depth chart. Fun activity though.

If the plan was to bring in an outside OC wouldn't you want him in place for the spring so he can start evaluating the offense?

Any chance DJ Mangas gets promoted to OC? I see he is working with the QB's now during spring ball.

RE: 2017 Football
I certainly wouldn't suppose to know what Jimmye is thinking, but it is my guess that he probably just wants to keep the number of variables limited, with so many people in contention for the position.

Whether it is DJ or anyone else, the new coach can evaluate talent, pretty well, from massive amounts of tape being accumulated.

I know nothing of the situation, but I cannot imagine Mangas is the OC. Quarterbacks coach perhaps. Unless he is some prodigy, he hasn't paid his dues up the coaching pecking order to merit that promotion.

If you want a Mangus for OC how about G. A.? He has learned his lesson about peeing before he leaves the bar and he learned from Spurrier and Rick Stockstill as a player and a coach...

RE: 2017 Football
The oline looks solid. Big, some nice length at the tackles and very solid in the middle. If we can figure a couple of positions out this spring and summer, we could make some noise in the CAA.

My prediction still stands, but I'm trending up not down.

RE: 2017 Football
Dedmon is interviewed today by Tribe TV (see below). It's only one brief mention, but when asked about what he sees in the 1bs this spring practice he only mentions Shon Mitchell.

What does it mean? Just his opinion, but possibly reflective of the qb battle.

RE: 2017 Football
It means that Shon is in the lead if I were to take anything out of the interview. Makes complete sense and adds up since he enrolled in January. I'm sure the coaches told him he could compete for a starting job no matter what, but getting in early helps. Let's see what he does in the Spring game.

Man, it seems like Devonte just got here. Where did the last 3 years go....
Whomever wins the role to get the ball in his hands, I hope it is a season we finally see a healthy and electric Dedmon every game. Very frustrating, so often, seeing balls thrown at his feet or over his head during his career to date.

He only mentioned Mitchell as being mentally very tough, but the fact he only mentioned him by name and grouped the rest, says a lot in my opinion.

More interesting in his comment that it was hard not having an OC yet.

If Dedmon and Christian are healthy and can be on the field at the same time, look out.
