We finished #2 and #3 in the conference in recruiting last year and the year before (this year our average is good, but fewer players signed). That will pay off at some point. I really like the talent that the coaches are bringing in. We should have more depth than we have ever had at almost every position now that we've had a few FBS recruiting classes. I agree that if we can reduce the stupid penalties, we would have won a couple more games this year.
I have a feeling that Garvin may win out just due to the amount of reps he will get in the spring. Since Dallas Davis may not be back from his injury until the fall, he may fall behind. Of course, Cephus Johnson could sneak up and get a chance if he shows he can learn the system. He is a great athlete.
We had the #5 most improved defense in the country last year (2nd if you remove the bowl game) under our first year DC. I expect them to improve even more if we don't lose half of our starters on that side of the ball to injury again.
If our O-line can improve (and I don't think they can get much worse), I think we will improve enough on offense to win some of the closer games we lost this year (most of them).
Our schedule is even tougher next year than it was this year, opening with Ole Miss, Oklahoma State at hime, then LaTech 2 weeks later, but I think we'll compete better in conference. I'm cautiously optimistic.
