What they did this year is one of the biggest stories in FBS- that everyone is ignoring.

I'm prepared to believe we might finish 5th or even 6th if every bounce goes the wrong way this year, but I'll be very disappointed by either finish. I think we're in the top tier again this year. Looking at what we have coming back we're more likely to be better this year than worse. We really only lost 4-5 guys who were big difference makers and will have a very good veteran corps returning.

Given our better OOC schedule this year and the returning talent we have a shot to win double digit games. But people look at all the negativity surrounding the program and assume we'll suck on the field. Our football program is actually very good right now in every facet other than Athletic Director and University President.

Finishing in 4th place would be an improvement. Probably would be 7-5 or 8-4 if we are 4th which is in line with what I expect. It sucks though because it's kind of like getting an 89 on test. Still good but not great.

I haven't taken a look at your OOC. I think it'll be tough to top stAte and App St again. Troy should be good again as well. Idaho could easily contend this year. They may be a dark horse pick. It would be cool to see the Idaho players go out with a bang.

With our luck Idaho will go winless OOC, undefeated in SBC play, win their bowl game big, and then go winless in FCS next year.... Please God don't let that happen!

Idaho should be a top half SBC team with that QB and other solid pieces. Idaho's biggest problem this season will be depth. Their first 30 players will keep them in all conference games. Teams that play them later in the season are likely to perform better against them.

Kinda something they've been dealing with the last few years. Seemed like the 2 years they played us they played tough early and then just got railroaded as the game went on.

ULM will not finish 10th in the league. I will put money on that.

Possibly. Depth was definitely the biggest problem in 2014-15 but not last year as we finished games well. I believe there are enough guys who've been in the system that we'll be OK this year, but we'll see.

We finished #2 and #3 in the conference in recruiting last year and the year before (this year our average is good, but fewer players signed). That will pay off at some point. I really like the talent that the coaches are bringing in. We should have more depth than we have ever had at almost every position now that we've had a few FBS recruiting classes. I agree that if we can reduce the stupid penalties, we would have won a couple more games this year.

I have a feeling that Garvin may win out just due to the amount of reps he will get in the spring. Since Dallas Davis may not be back from his injury until the fall, he may fall behind. Of course, Cephus Johnson could sneak up and get a chance if he shows he can learn the system. He is a great athlete.

We had the #5 most improved defense in the country last year (2nd if you remove the bowl game) under our first year DC. I expect them to improve even more if we don't lose half of our starters on that side of the ball to injury again.

If our O-line can improve (and I don't think they can get much worse), I think we will improve enough on offense to win some of the closer games we lost this year (most of them).

Our schedule is even tougher next year than it was this year, opening with Ole Miss, Oklahoma State at hime, then LaTech 2 weeks later, but I think we'll compete better in conference. I'm cautiously optimistic.

Transitioning teams are not eligible for a bowl, except under the following circumstances:

#Not enough 6 and 6 teams.

#Transitioning team is in final year of transition

#not enough teams with higher priority ( this is 4th of 5 exceptions)

It is highly unlikely to get to that point.

RE: The First 2017 Pre Season Outlook
I would like to see Idaho to get a bowl on their last year of eligibility. Being the Poinsetta Bowl got cancelled, there shouldn't be 5-7 teams in the bowls. I wouldn't think Coastal would get in a bowl, but who knows what will happen.

I didn't know Dallas was still hurt/recovering. We need to win 4 conference games this season. I'm ready to see the full schedule for all the Sunbelt teams.

My predictions
Bowl Teams - App, Troy, Ark State, GS, ULL, Idaho
Maybe - USA, Ga State, Texas State
No - NMSU, ULM, Coastal

I like you. I like the things you say, and for that, I give you points.

Bold prediction on Coastal's bowl appearance. I'm loving it.

This will be Coastal's final year of transition. First year is FCS transitional (2016) and 2nd year is in FBS (2017). We have been short on bowl teams both years since we have gone to 80 bowl teams. 6-6 Coastal will go before 5-7 APR teams. I expect them to have a good shot.
