That's a strange story...
What the heck? Why would USM want him if he wants to go to Troy?
The stupid side of recruiting. I guess USM has an "in" with Moms.....

Venice plays in the 7A classification in FL and lost to St. Thomas Aquinas (one of the top HS teams in America) in the semifinal round of the state playoffs. STA won the 7A state championship in FL by a score of 45-6 over Plant HS. Laroche rushed for 2,742 yards and 37 TD on the season. He was a finalist for Mr. Football in the state of Florida. He runs a 4.4 and 10.6 100m. Measurables are 5'10" 170. Not the biggest guy, but as big as many very highly rated RB over the years. 247Sports has him as the lowest rated recruit for GS at 73.97. Can somebody here explain this? Not sure how many combines or camps he attended, but just a look at his performance in the biggest classification in Florida should say something. I follow HS recruiting closely, but this one has me puzzled.
Yeah, I literally just pointed out on our board that ESPN listed us as the #3 class in the SBC with our #1 recruit being our 247 #15. It's very subjective this far down the ladder.
The 24/7 ranking is a composite of all four sites......Some sites grade tougher some sites dont get to every single kid. That is why the 24/7 composite is what folks go by as most FBS recruits will end up with three of the four ranking them. Check last years class on 24/7 vs this year you will see eventually most of your recruits will eventually get a looked at.

He is probably 5'8" and 160 and some kids benefit from being on a really good team could be two reasons.
Also with all that you listed now way the FBS missed looking at him as he probably had many team mates being looked at, yet us an ODU were the only FBS offers and DIV II school thought they had a crack at him. So you cant say he flew under the radar if ODU found him. Most of the FBS coaching staffs did not see what they wanted. He probably fits our system better as we need two types of backs not just a prototypical back.

Pretty easy to sell once you have a competent recruiter

This would be called a creek in Georgia.
I think we all know that there's only one creek in Georgia.

The sites also reward quantity and having lots of HS players. We will see if their class ends up producing like a #1.

App's class has great quality, not on quantity which hurt the rankings. Slightly upset with who all we lost last weekend, but as I think about it, reason is simple, we're recruiting with the big boys. Most of our flips were to the P5: Illinois, Purdue, Kansas and Wake. Not only are our recruits football talented, but Sat makes an effort to get the classroom talented players too ... which the makes them more desirable to the big boys too. If App gets to the point where they start to beat these P5 schools for these recruits, WATCH OUT!
Class overall isn't as great as we hoped from a few weeks ago, but good enough to keep us on top of the SB. Lack of numbers keeps this class from being in the top.

I wouldn't worry too much about the rankings especially when it comes to individual players. Jalin Moore had the lowest rating possible coming out of high school, but has gained over 2,000 yards in his first two years and was Offensive POY even though he split time with Cox. The class ratings for anyone outside of the top 20 or so mean nothing.

Winning on Championship Saturday is more important than winning on Signing Day Wednesday.

LOL. I forget you guys are relatively new move ups from FCS. That kind of crap has been happening for years with stAte and other schools here in the SBC. The lower to mid-level P5s wait until the last second and when they don't get who they want they come try to pick the bones of the G5. Happens every year. Unfortunately, this was your year. Sorry to hear it because it sucks for that coaching staff that worked its butt off only to lose out to some program that's perceived to be marginally better than yours. Keep winning and changing that perception is all you can do.

He's coming to Troy
gonna be difficult. We have a signed loi Troy doesnt.
You guys are aholes if you are going with the Mom and not the kid that is soon to be an adult. You really want to force a kid on campus?
Always recruit mom. It's the number one rule in recruiting.
24/7 says we have the worst class in the Sun Belt. And in 2016 we had the least-talented team in the conference. OH NO!!! WE'RE SCREWED!!!!! I just hope we can pull one out against Sacramento State and avoid the 0-fer.

You should be forced to drop to FCS as a penalty for having a class rated last on 247
Been following ASU recruiting a long time. Signing huge OL who can move has never been done consistently. This is the most impressively large and athletic group of OL we have signed in a long time. Good chance the OL will be improved despite replacing them all.

Oh...Wait...
Better reason for moving down than any Chuck Staben has given so far.
