Do the math.
W&M can't play Nova, Delaware, Towson, JMU, Richmond, and Elon on an annual basis. That's seven schools.
Not enough games for the other five ... UNH, Maine, URI, Albany, Stony Brook.
Another reason ... I suspect that there's a deal whereby CAA all sports schools play each other annually ... Delaware, Towson, JMU, W&M, Elon.
Add in Richmond ... and there's no room for Nova on an annual basis on the Tribe's schedule.
Now, when JMU leaves, and are replaced by Monmouth, you may see a return of the North and South with Monmouth being placed in the north, and Nova in the south.

Wait. We play 8 conference games a year. Can't we get 6 as a permanent fixture?

RE: 2017 Football Schedule
That's the math part, which I'm not good at.
I don't think we can get six permanent fixtures without somebody else having either a lousy schedule, or inability to get eight games. I think five fixtures is the most that works.
As for my theory about CAA all sports schools playing each other annually, I see JMU and Towson don't play this year, so so much for that.
I also see that the latest on the JMU boards is the feeling that nothing is happening there until the G5 has a national playoff system. Interesting.

The bye is before CAA play. I don't like that at all.

Having the bye before the CAA schedule is brutal. Also, the month of October looks brutal as well. Fortunately, it won't matter if the Tribe stays healthy and works on each opponent.

I see 8 wins so I like the schedule.

Where do you think they'll lose? Also, I think it is certainly possible to go undefeated at home this year.

RE: 2017 Football Schedule
8 wins is very achievable. Trips to Maine and Delaware could pose a problem. Look for our guys to welcome a new coach and redeem themselves from last year at Elon. We can also take care of UNH and Towson at home.
I think it comes down to the results at UVA, JMU and Richmond. We will most likely enter the season as underdogs to these 3, but anything can happen as the season progresses.

I think Richmond may really struggle next year. I'm more concerned about UNH, this was supposed to be their rebuilding year.

RE: 2017 Football Schedule
While October is brutal, all 4 games will be interesting. Elon beat no one but us in the league this year, so payback on Oct 7th, on the 14th we get Delaware and Danny Rocco in the same game(will be interesting to see how we fare), Oct 21- National champions coming into Zable for Homecoming(let's hope we have 12,000 Tribe fans inside the stadium for that one.), Oct. 28- another opponent we lost to in 2016 in Maine. Hate that 3 of those are on the road.
I really wish we could work out 6 home games one year. I guess we will have 6 again in 2019.
I will predict we go 4-7 because the Tribe always does better with low preseason expectations.

Kind of a bummer to have the first home game be family weekend, and homecoming be JMU. Attendance will likely be down next year.

RE: 2017 Football Schedule
Last year injuries killed us; despite a perfect bye location we had a losing season, so I don't worry about when the bye week exists.
There will be immense interest in this team with Shon possibly at the helm....a winning team and breakthrough quarterback will pack Zable.
You will see immense interest this spring with Mitchell in spring practice.

Do not forget Rotger. He is also a talented QB, with a year in the system. With Shon getting a semester to learn the playbook, it should be an interesting competition.
